There are many on here with good advice . All I would say is that for your son sake , hang on in there ! Try to concentrate on your work , while you are at work . Its important that you don,t take your problems to work . I know its tough , but let your work be your "escape". Best wishes.

Hi scared, welcome to MSE, ill start off by saying this site changed my life for the better, and im sure it will be the same for you.

I think first things first, your SOA has been gone over pretty well so far, i didnt see a link to it, but there is a website located at http://www.entitledto.co.uk which will let you see if you can get extra benefits or anything else which will get your monthly balance back into the black.

Someone already suggested meal planning, which will help you cut your shopping bill, also look at BOGOF offers and own brands, 9 times out of 10 there is no difference in taste, and for the 1/10 its not such a crime to allow a little treat ;)

Id imagine the TV/phone contract is with Virgin? as someone said you should be allowed to move to a cheaper tariff, then just make sure you post here, or get friends on MSN to keep phone bills down.

Ebaying and decluttering would be a great start as well, im sure not only freshening up the house (i dont mean in a smelly way, in a making more room kind of way) will help your moods, also less c**p means less clearing up!

Any money made on this should go straight towards your higest interest credit card, or loan if you are allowed to make overpayments.

If you overpay a loan make sure they credit the loan, and not use a sneaky trick of putting the money in a holding place, earning you nothing.

Also getting organised, put your debts into a table, with the name, total amount outstanding, monthly payments (minimum) and APR/Interest rate.

Then tackle the debt with the highest APR first, with any spare money you can muster (we will free up some) and keep up payements at the minimum on the rest.

Also any debt you can transfer to 0% offers or low life of balance cards will save you interest in the long run.

Another good site is quidco.co.uk to earn cashback for changing suppliers, to the cheapest naturally.

The best hints are to join in the daily threads, keep a diary (offline or online) of what you spend, join in any challenges and basically just be active.

Best wishes, and great start to 2008 :)

    Hi

I have a thread on here called Dealing with Debt and Depression which is here, you are welcome to come over and have a chat, we are all really friendly and talking does help. We may not be able to offer financal advice, but a friendly shoulder to cry on, or someone to share a virtual cup of tea with.

You have so much to live for, your son for one thing. I refused to go on medication for my depression and my Dr has been really supportive, I have been seeing a counseller which has really helped and i have done a Cognitive Behaviour course (I have the notes they gave out if you would like to read them) No Dr can make you do or take anything you don't want to, and remember that they are a tool to use to help you get better. Depression is an illness and not something to be ashamed of. If you ever what to chat private message me and I'll be there.

Have you found all your paperwork yet? That really is a first step as would be ringing CCCS or Payplan. Ebay and Amazon get really addictive, you could always set up a challenge with your son to see how raises the most money. This is something that you can both do and if he is anything like I was he will feel like he is helping you in some way. If you need any advice on how to set these up just ask and we will be there to help.

Have you made your dr's appointment yet?

Huge huge hugs for you and your son, and remember that you are a very very strong person otherwise you would never have got this far and faced your problems like you have, for that you need deserve the upmost respect.

take care and you know where we are if you need us.
