Dia, from reading your diaries it seems art is an intrinsic part of you. You struggle with the monetary cost and yet.... if it is calling to you then the decision is not about logic but what feels right or necessary to you right now. If you think of beauty as being a necessity for your emotional and spiritual survival then you may find the decision a little less difficult. Money comes and goes. Would you feel sad if you didn't go ahead? You will find the right answer after sleeping on it, good decision 👍5

Well done on being firm with the friend!

Thanks @Tresinia511 I agree money comes and goes... and I do need beauty right now
Thanks @in_need_of_direction ...aiming for something that speaks to me works for me!
Thanks @jwil and @beanielou I was proud of me too
I am glad I gave myself time to think. It gave me the opportunity to pinpoint my want...If money were not an issue I would definitely buy the work of art....But...
So, I have lots of art that I love and none of it is on the walls. Most of it is still in the loft in bubblewrap...and some things need framing. So, I am going to use an MSE principle and 'shop from stores.'
I have called a local handyman (a frog that I have been putting off) He is coming on Monday to see what I need doing. I will get some holes drilled so my art can go on my walls...then I will be able to enjoy what I already have.
I have some art that has never been framed. In addition, I have some posters I bought for the relative that died from art shows we used to go to together. I will get a lot of pleasure from seeing those on my walls. So, I will pay for the framing.
All of the above will be a fraction of the price of the new painting.
In addition, I am going to use Minted to create an art fund (or pot as @Skint_yet_Again calls it) then when I see art I want to purchase in future the money will be there, or at least some of it will be.
In the cold light of day this seems like a good plan...but it is possible I will ignore all the above rationale and buy it anyway!
I hope everyone enjoys the start of their weekend

Whatever you end up deciding about the current art work you have seen I think creating an art fund pot for the future is a brilliant idea.5

So, I decided not to go for the painting. I went in to tell the gallery owner and it was fine. I am going to prioritise an emergency fund instead. I will be framing one existing art piece a month. I am planning where to put them.
In other news the friend who was being manipulative has now said she will no longer do something she had committed to. This impacts me. They had said 'I completely understand if you would rather not.' When I said I would rather not, because of X and Y, they did not like, or, clearly, expect it. Everyone I've spoken to about it says the friend should not have asked to start with. I am ok with it as it reveals to me something about that person that I thought but had not articulated. Every day is a school day
I'm having a lovely quiet day...papers, that sort of thing
I had my Saturday saunter as there was a little market today. I didn't buy anything.
I have lentils and will make veg, lentil and chicken soup to have with feta cheese
I hope everyone is enjoying their saturday

Dia, manipulative friends are a curse on your life. Worse, they often don't reveal this until a critical point. I have never put up with this and neither should you. Feel pleased instead that they have been revealed.5
