Dia, really good your other ideas are looking positive. Bonus that your friend is stepping up to the plate, i feel this is something you also would have done, so karma and all that. Is interesting psychologically that a lack of funds for basics makes you want to spend on non basic goods. Is there something you can recognise which drives this impulse? It will be good when you have your emergency fund built5

Thanks @Tresinia511 I like to feel I can have it if I really wanted to and having an EF and a small buffer zone give me that feeling. And therefore I don't need to buy it. Conversely, with no funds I feel sorry for myself and want very nice things to make up for it. I have no reason to feel sorry for myself. I am very fortunate indeed. It is silly behaviour, and best dealt with by getting an EF in place ASAP. By the end of summer, I should have 1k tucked away and no debt. I used to be the same when funds were low I would panic spend on !!!!!!. I am impressed at the purchase of a housecoat reduced by £100 - WOW what brand, although it could be a work deductible as you have paying guests in your house so need to be presentable at all times.5

Ah don't feel bad me dear, you've had a lot of upheaval and having to be on it physically and mentally, normal for brain to go 'I'm knackered and I know there's some money soon so s*d it'.
Leave or send back what isn't long-term necessary when you assess tomorrow, and I'm sure your meal conjuring will be grand5 -
You obviously felt the need to treat yourself. If you can pinpoint the reason why you can put a plan in place for the next time it happens. In the future you could have a fritter fund for such times.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)4

Dia, a fritter fund! as mentioned by Sun addict, sounds a fabulous idea. Is good you know your triggers, and brilliant you have a plan to mitigate. A plan is always a great idea. Plus you work hard and so it's totally understandable to want a little reward now and then5

Thanks @MayDogsandCoffee I will message you on the shop
Thanks @beanielou fingers crossed I do get some money in today!
Thanks @PennysIntoPounds you are right my brain knows funds are on the horizon and I've worked hard so yes, it has triggered my sod it mentality...A meal has been conjured. I will make a veggie tagine as I have tons of veggies. I will use the cash jar to buy a handful of cashews at our lovely refill shop to toast and put on top. I have fresh mint growing so will chop and add it for presentation. I already have rice
Thanks @Sun_Addict I don't exactly fritter, as the things I buy are thought out and usually I've wanted them for a while. So, using your suggestion I will create a pot called 'you're a long time dead' which is what a close friend always says when she wants to buy something luxurious and not totally necessary
So, the last day is here. They will be gone in the morning! Everything feels much more relaxed. Shower-gate is no more! Timings for the shower, leaving the bathroom dry, and having showers for a reasonable length of time are all ok.
I will go out later today when the sun has gone down. Take a walk into town...
The hope is funds have arrived so I can pick up the table and chairs.
My friend will be here at lunchtime delivering houseplant compost for which my plants will be very grateful!
The heat affects air quality and a houseguest had an asthma attack in the night after a day trip to London yesterday. She had her pump so all ok. It reminded me to collate a list of emergency numbers to leave in the kitchen for guests but also for me! I will do that today, as well as write a 'how my house works' mini guide. This experience has shown me the bathroom is the area of contention for me. So, if I can get that right I will be much more relaxed. Coming back very late, changing meal times at short notice and hanging out in my space are all things I don't mind.
Today I am going to meal plan and do an online shop. I will leave it in my basket until I need it. Some recipes, like the stuffed peppers in the slow cooker were super easy, as were omelettes!
A cheese shop is arriving on my road in a few weeks.
Off to find clothes to wash as this is good drying weather
Have a good day allIf you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

Food plans sound lovely. As a meat eater I would love your non meat meals. It’s salmon / trout I can’t abide 😆 Yum to stuffed peppers and veg tagine 😋
