Hi
I know I'm a bit late, and I've been lurking for a while (all month probably) and have done alright by just reading your posts, but I'd really like to join, pretty please?
I work full time and have recently changed jobs so I now have more of a routine (in one office all the time now, was all over the country before!) so really should be much better at brining in my own lunch.
When I do bring in my own, it tastes much better any way, and this is one area where I really can/should/need to save money.

Well the last week couldn't have gone worse, I have now drawn a line under January and will be starting afresh on Monday. The first couple of weeks of Jan went so well I just don't know where I went wrong, or rather why I went wrong
Right so my goal is, to make packed lunches every day for myself when I make my DS's and I will allow myself a school dinner (I work in a school, I'm not a student by the way) on a Friday as that's chip day. School dinners are £2.47 a day so I intend to save £9.88 a week by bringing my own in 4 days of the week.
Right, that's it, set in stone (again ).
Now just need to find some cheap, different lunch ideas, so stick of ham sarniesDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
Good morning all
Yep, like you jo1972 I am drawing a line under January and starting afresh on Monday. I feel I slipped a bit too far in January, having rested on my laurels after the first week. Something inside me said it was unrealistic to have no spend weeks all the time and I started "allowing" myself the odd crunchie, can, packet of crisps. I mean, I have a Farmfoods in town (5 mins from office) and I just have to MAKE myself go there for multi packs.
I too am sick of the old ham sandwich so I've been adding mustard pickle some days, cheese on others AND, wait for it, changed recepticle from ordinary bread to bagels, to rolls, to bread again.
Good luck to February and welcome Pengwern16 and all other recent joiners. :TGrocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0 -

Good lord, will the adventure ever stop
I think I shall wander over to the OS board and search some tips, need more salady pasta kinda stuff, maybe couscous. I think one of the reasons I failed (apart from my pure laziness) was that I was beginning to feel really bloated after eating bread every day for 3 weeks. I never used to eat much bread at all and then I overloaded, I need to find something else to eat.

Cous cous is a good thing ,as you only need to add boiling water... i like Ainsleys but only when it's BOGOF! Cous cous is nice with smoked sausage or maybe canned tuna?
I'm not very adventurous either, although i find sticking any plain old sandwich into the works toastie machine makes a dull sandwich more bearable.... Do you have a toastie maker at work (or better still a george foreman grill, then you can make Panini's!! yum!!) Toasties are very 1970's but i do prefer them to a normal bread sandwich....I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
Naughty me forgot to update on here last week, but I have been keeping track of my overall total. Had three 'good' days and two where I couldn't resist the lure of the canteen, will try to do better this week!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0

Monday: Egg sandwiches (last minute decision as the eggs went out of date two days ago!), 2 x petit filous, 1 x Walkers crisps (will be buying own brand from now on!) and one Pepsi Max.... all from home :T . Got a Chili con Carne on the boil as I type.... with nough for me and OH tonight, and lunch tomorrow
Tuesday: Left over chili from last night, packet of crisps, apple and banana all from home, and spent 70p on two coffees :T
Wednesday: No work so no spends!
Thursday: Not good.... planned to have left over pasta, but left it home. Not too bad I thought, as I can use it Friday instead..... but OH ate it! Ended up spend £4 on food
Friday: Ended up spending another £5 on food as I really couldn't be bothered to make anything to take in the afternoon - I wasn't helped by the fact that I spent an extra 3 hrs in bed!
I am on hols again this week, but I am food shopping today, so will look out for some more things to take with me..... I find it better to over cook the night before and take left overs, then the only effort I need to make in the morning is to pick up my lunch box and some fruit!'We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars' - Oscar Wilde0 -

Hi Rachel, i have an addiction too, mine is Diet Irn Bru...
There is no machine here but i bring my own which works out much cheaper.
It's okay just now as the kitchen at work is freezing, so i don't need them chilled! but i don't know what i'll do come the summertime, i think we'll need to invest in a fridge here, must keep an eye on free-cycle!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
