NSD#5
Woke up often in the early hours of this morning, so gave yoga a miss. Left for work early, to drop my car at the garage & get a lift from work bestie.
Work went ok. DH messaged to say the garage phoned & I need 4 new tyres, which won't arrive until Tues/Wed. Work bestie suggested I phone the garage & see if they'll fit a tyre on the bald tyre if I got one from somewhere. Played the sometimes have to take DH to A&E card, & would you believe it, a tyre turned up! Bestie dropped me off on her way home, as it was early for car collection, I hiked up a big hill & down the road to pass the time.
Finished assembling the gonk after tea & started another one. Finished watching a series whilst knitting.
Grateful for a helpful mechanic, lifts from work bestie, other work bestie taking mum to & from a pre-birthday massage, time to craft for myself, a nice, but chilly walk
Use it up, wear it out
Make do or do without!
If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours 😃

@grandmanerd - I am a lifetime member of the International Optimist Club (though sometimes I am definitely a pessimist). But here is the complete creed:
I PROMISE MYSELF
To be so strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person I meet.
To make all my friends feel that there is something worth while in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make my optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best
and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of
others as I am about my own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the
greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful expression at all times and give a smile
to every living creature I meet.
To give so much time to improving myself that I
have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear,
and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
To think well of myself and to proclaim this fact to the world,
not in loud word, but in great deeds.
To live in the faith that the whole world is on my side,
so long as I am true to the best that is in me.–Christian D. Larson

Hi Turtles,
I’ve just been catching up on all your positive updates: jobs done, debts down, much to celebrate! Well done to everyone… loving the good vibes!
The last few days have been a bit dramatic here.
First, I picked DS up from school yesterday, and his teacher informed me he’d got into trouble for kicking his friend. Apparently, his wee pal had been winding him up by pulling his top up. After chatting to DS, I have to say I probably would’ve kicked him too. (Not that I told him that!) Anyway, they’re seven, so I’m sure they’ll get over it.
Yesterday, I also picked Mum up from the airport after her holiday. She had an amazing time, but I knew what was waiting for her back home… complete carnage in the garden from that storm a couple of weeks ago. Walls down, fence flattened, cracked slabs - the lot! She was devastated... understandably. Ended up coming round to ours for a cuppa, a good cry, and a pep talk from OH and me. She’s panicking about the cost and the possibility of the insurance not paying out which doesn’t cover everything anyway so she will still be majorly out of pocket. Honestly, I’m anxious for her too, but I’m keeping that to myself. I want her to feel like she can lean on me when she needs to.
It’s a strange shift seeing your parents age. I can see the gradual reversal in our roles. It makes me a bit sad sometimes, but I’m trying to focus on the here and now. I know we’re all relatively healthy and enjoying our lives right now but I’m just conscious of it, and sometimes those sad thoughts creep in.
The day before Mum got back, I helped my neighbour - a very large man - who’d taken a nasty fall down his concrete steps. His wife came to my door looking for OH but he was at the office, and the only other neighbour around was a lovely lady who’s just finished cancer treatment. But, between the two of us, we managed to get him up and back inside his house, despite him being around 25 stone! They didn’t want me to call an ambulance, though I thought he needed one.
Fast forward to 11pm, and an ambulance turned up. They’d decided to call one because he was in a lot of pain. Turns out he has a fractured spine! Thankfully, the hospital seems optimistic it’ll heal. I feel annoyed with myself that I wasn’t more forceful with calling an ambulance sooner but he and his wife were adamant they did not want me to call for one.
After all that chaos, DS is at his grandparents for a couple of nights, so OH took us out for dinner last night and today we are off to the cinema (paid for with a gift voucher).
Grateful this morning for a lie in, for grandparents taking DS for a couple of nights, and for all being well in the grand scheme of things.
