I was going to come and post this today as it was "confidential" until today, but they have rebranded the whole deal, so now, with bt privacy option you can request free caller display.
The ONLY catch is you must phone to ensure it is free, as if you don't, you will continue to pay for caller display if you have it. The BT advisor will ask you if you make any calls through BT. Always say yes, as they will not check this. I myself use 18866 and only use BT when it's by mistake!!
Hope this clears it up.
extra note - they spent a LOT of money rebranding this....and really the only thing that people will be interested in is the fact that caller display is now free.
When you go through the web link - after I log in as myself - I notice that my existing Caller Display is checked with my £1.75 per month cost indicated. There is a separate option for the new BT Security thing with a zero cost. Therefore I unchecked the Caller Display option and checked the BT Security option. My monthly options total cost went down from £1.75 to £0. Presumably therefore I am all sorted now and - as long as you are already registrered online - it does seem possible to do it online.

Just did it - called dedicated automated line, 0800 916 5544 - and tis CLID display is now free - or so they told me !
Does this mean that i now lose my 1571 answer phone ? If it does is there any way that i can keep it ?

bbb_uk wrote:We are registered online but when I tried it via their website it told me that it wasn't possible to add any calling features to my line in its current state. No idea what that meant or if it was just a brief problem but decided to ring up and thats when I was given the freephone automated number.
I had the same message/problem.
I am an existing subscriber at £1.75/mth. I registered for the Privacy option online and was allocated two order numbers (confimed by email). It stated 'your services will be delivered within 3 working days.'
Then when I went back online to check my revised (hopefully) calling features profile, I was informed that my enquiry was not possible because I had 'open orders' on my account.
Therefore I assume I will not be able to check until the aforementioned 3 days have elapsed.0 -
I just called the automated order line and ordered Caller Display (I am already registered with TPS so didn't bother with that option).
It was operational (I checked by calling myself from my mobile) within ten minutes!Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'

during my training for this, i heard no mention of anything regarding 1571. The privacy option simply allows you for FREE to have caller display, and register through BT for the TPS. There is no cost, and I wasn't aware of any link between this and 1571. It's totally seperate.26/09/2017 - Started comping again. Wins so far: 1!

as far as i can remember, there are 3 different privacy packages. Privacy online already exists, and that is where you can download safety software from BT.com to protect your comp from dialing foreign numbers etc. no charge.
Privacy at home is the one with FREE caller display and FREE tps registration through BT.
Privacy Plus (or something along those lines) is the advanced option, which is basically a repackaged way of selling things like "choose to refuse" and "anonymous call rejection". This is the ONLY one you pay for, but the charges are EXACTLY the same as before.
That really is all there is to it - register for the option with TPS and free caller display (privacy at home i think it's called, it's the middle one) and that's exactly what you get. Just don't forget to do it if you are paying for caller display!26/09/2017 - Started comping again. Wins so far: 1!

Don't forget, BT customers can enjoy these calling features at no extra charge:- 1471 lets you know who called last *
- BT Answer 1571 takes messages for you
- Order BT Privacy at Home for more control over incoming calls
- * Call Return (press 3) element of BT 1471 - from the 1st August 2004, BT will be introducing a 6p fixed fee to the Call Return element of BT 1471. The fee will apply when customers press "3" to return the call to the telephone number of the last caller and will be charged regardless of whether or not the call is connected. Dialling BT 1471 without using the Call Return will remain a free service.
