    Paying in cash/cheques for anybody with a paying in slip, and it did not have to be personalized or need ID

    Having 3 separate reciprocal cash machine networks
    Midland/Natwest/Ulster/TSB
    Lloyds, Barclays, RBS, BOS (?)
    Link network initially for building societies only
    Now they are all linked together  :)

    Indeed. I actually remember the sort code and account number of the TSB account I had nearly 40 years ago because of how often I had to fill in one of those un-personalised paying-in slips.

    Not a branch one but at a bank level, there's no longer an ability to plunge the country into financial crisis, now that there's tighter regulatory control again....

    I always seem to think of Yorkshire Bank/ Clydsdale Bank as being one of the more old fashioned banks before all the changes, their branches always seemed really dated

    Really interesting… in what ways were they dated? There wasn’t a YB/CB near me so I’ve never seen inside one.

    Staff taking pride in how they looked and looking good in uniform.

    It's sad that most of the time staff have a sloppy look and would rather focus on their phone to avoid eye contact hoping the customer uses the machines.

    In addition to many changes with the times the general deterioration of service quality in the UK can not be overlooked.

    Hard to explain they just seemed really outdated. Unmodernised

    Having all your cashed cheques returned to you.  (Bank of Scotland) - (still unsure why they did this).
    I think all the banks probably did that if you go back far enough.  Williams & Glyn's were still doing it in the early 80s.
    I presume it was in case customers wanted proof that their cheques had been paid.

    They gave their cash machines a name.  I can only remember some...

    RBS = Cashline
    TSB = Speedbank
    Natwest = Service Till
    Lloyds = Cashpoint
    Clydesdale =Autobank
    Bank of Scotland = Autoteller

    Yorkshire Bank = Minibank.
