On their site Ebid state something like;- "Ebid started in 1995 and unlike other selling platforms during all this time we have kept everything the same without making any changes that other platforms keep on making"
I like this. I don't like changes. I like simplicity and things to stay the same years later.

So eBay can stay big, there is such a thing as TOO BIG !
Bottom line is if you are private seller looking to shift your stuff eBay is still the best bet. The new fees are tiny, I really don't care about payment holds(the money stays anywhere to buy bits and bobs on eBay), simply delivery may screw me personally due to being rural, those with drop off points near them will probably be fine.
If eBay ends up being that bad for private sellers something else will emerge, I'm surprise Facebook never monetised their marketplace, maybe the cost of monitoring it all is too much?In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
I have to admit I have not read all the comments .. I just happened to notice the thread a day or two ago.
It seems all parcels must now be tracked .. well, from the start date
I only use Royal Mail and EVRi.
I know EVRi provides a tracking number, but Royal Mail, I thought only offered a 'delivered code' for want of a better name on their receipt. Not proper tracking, but will highlight a delivery. Funnily enough, yesterday I was in the PO (not my normal one) and I was asked whether I wanted tracking for an extra 20p .. this I had never heard of before, so may be useful in future.
I'm not 100% sure, but the Royal Mail 'delivered code' isn't available for large letters, so maybe this extra 20p service would be good here too0 -

I'm not forgetting, it's irrelevant. Ebid had just over 180,000 visitors in December 2024. Ebay had over 200 million. That's less than 0.1%. I don't think their policy of never changing has worked well for them. I've always though Ebid just plod along until they get someone who wants to buy their name but I think even that ship has sailed for them now.https://www.similarweb.com/website/ebid.net/
On one other point, Pierre Omidyar, founder of Ebay, co founded Eshop in 1991, that was sold to Microsoft in 1996 for $50 million. There was a lot of investment in Ebay in their early days. It was always going to be huge or disappear. The idea that it was ever just meant to be a hobby site is a bit of a myth, partly built by Ebay's PR team. The fictional story put out that the first thing sold on Ebay was a Pez dispenser was part of a larger strategy to sell more toys.

eBay had over 200 million visitors in 2024 ? Eh ?... If that's the case then why is the whole of the Internet plastered with lots of people complaining and saying that eBay's dead and there are no sales on eBay ???
If you believe that old chestnut that eBay's had 200 million visitors in 2024 then you definitely believe in eBay !... because in all reality it certainly does not appear to be true no matter what fancy figures eBay state online...anyone can write anything they want and hide behind their big brand name... but whether it's true or a little over exaggerated there is no definite way of knowing for sure and we only have eBay's word for it which is basically hearsay !...
Bottom line is I've now had enough of eBay and all their silly changes that I no longer wish to sell on eBay and have them dictate to me by rationing my sales and manipulating the searches not to show all my items... I am done with all these stupid Cassini hide & seek games and not to mention payment delays and dictated delivery !, so I now wish to sell on another site where eBay has no control over so I can get a good deal for once and start making money once again instead of constantly being in LIMBO with the weeks passing by and my items all remaining on 0 views with only 1 sale happening every 5 - 6 weeks ! which is just not acceptable. .0 -

If there is a delivery confirmation then it is 48 hours after the date of delivery.
Either way, if the buyer reports a problem to eBay they will hold the funds until a decision has been made and the case has been resolved.1 -

Ebid had tha chance to be good, they have never bothered really, they take the lifetime membership money and leave the site to run itself with very little traffic. EBay change depending on the times, yes some changes are beneficial and some are not, but the path that eBay chose cannot be compared at all to a tiny site with poor turnover.Anyone who has been selling for decades will remember other small private sites like freeserve auctions, and some I don’t even recall the name of . Anything that had any decent turnover was bought out by eBay , the fact that they don’t want ebid is very telling. No one is going to stop you using ebid, anything is worth a try if you can’t sell on eBay and are reluctant to charity shop your things. Just don’t be fooled by the whole ‘happy campers’ attitude and mission statements . I’ve asked before , as an indication of traffic on ebid, how many things have you bought on ebid compared to eBay ? I found Vinted that way, I was looking for something and my DIL found it on Vinted really cheap, I set up an account and bought it (a coat). I then bought something else and then decided that I had some personal items on eBay that weren’t shifting , so moved them to Vinted and yes a couple sold. So I found a few more bits which sold and so forth. I can’t use it for business stuff unfortunately, just personal items in a few limited categories, but I do quite well. However it appears to be their model which eBay are copying, they have integrated postage, the money is held by Vinted until 48 hours after delivery and buyers pay a buying premium.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Both these sites offer view stats. They vary slightly but the difference in scale to Ebid is clear. I don't think it's that hard to believe that Ebay has 1000+ times traffic to Ebid. Amazon has 2-3 times traffic of Ebay from Dec '24. Amazon usually has much higher traffic than Ebay.
Go and survey some friends and family and ask who's heard of Ebid, they won't know what you're talking about.
From what you say you're not doing good on Ebay so it's understandable you're trying elsewhere. I just think you've picked the wrong place. Let us know how you get on with Ebid. Have a search here to find other sellers who've tried Ebid.
