Hooray for Daphne and brood, thankyou for the lovely photos @Miró.
Something that popped into my head a few days ago was that I only ever see ducklings when they're at the small and fluffy stage and have never spotted any half grown ones on the river here. I often see quite large cygnets and occasionally half grown geese so where do the ducklings hide while they're growing or do they all meet an awful fate before they lose their fluff?
In other news it was Alice's Day here and I came out of my favourite BHF shop into a gaggle of Japanese ladies dressed as the Red Queen and mobbing a White Rabbit on the pavement this morning and the rest of my day was even weirder.
Anyway I snapped up a copy of The Sweet Roasting Tin, the first Ottolenghi cookbook which I do already have so plan to sell this one on the bay of e and an interesting book about bread for the grand total of £6.50.
Then, this afternoon, I went a bit mad in the Headington shops and bought all kinds of things which I'll sort out, try on and photograph tomorrow because I've simply run my personal battery flat. I think I'll pour myself a large drink and slope off to bed so see you all tomorrow.8 -
That's why Youngest came back looking a little wild-eyed, he got cultured....
I tink Daphne's brood are up agaisnt the usual Mallard lifestyle risks "Various factors influence a Mallard’s lifespan, including predation, habitat quality, food availability, and exposure to diseases. Urban Mallards often face additional challenges such as pollution and human interference, which can impact their longevity." In their case human interference appears wholly benign, but mallards also migrate & that can present challenges.6 -
@Rosa_Damascena the office I used to work at had Canadian geese and their goslings during the summer who used to leave their deposits over the drive to the main doors (that does sound rather grand in hindsight). They were messy visitors. Pedestrian visitors and staff used to have to run the gauntlet of at least one very protective Father Goose every day. He could definitely identify people who were nervous of him. My daily conversations with the him consisted of ‘Yes you can honk if you want but I’m not interested in your babies or your wife. I’m just going to work.’ He gave up honking and showing off at me in the end.✒️ Declutter 2025👗 Fashion on the Ration 2025 61/66 coupons (5 coupons silver boots)✒️Declutter 2024 🏅🏅🏅(DSis 🏅🏅)

Right, am now restored to working order after a large beaker containing alcohol and an early night so here goes.
First here are the three books I snapped up at the BHF shop for a grand total of £6.50 (the Ottolenghi is currently fetching at least £12 in hardback on the big river secondhand portal so it's going onto the bay of e as soon as I get organised).
Then I was in the Oxfam shop in Headington and spotted these earrings and this lovely little bird pin (pencil in photo for scale).
Then also in the Oxfam shop as well as the nearby Cancer Research shop I snapped up these books and the Ipswich guides as my paternal grandparents lived there so I have fond memories of Christchurch Park and the Mansion Museum particularly. The Scandal book goes up to 1995 and seems very detailed so I'm looking forward to reading all about a lot of things that were just before my time IYSWIM.
Then I bought these three pairs of trousers because they're all lighter weight so hopefully cooler for walking. The top left are Per Una, top right M&S Classic and bottom are Mountain Warehouse.
Next I snapped up this Orvis blouse and these Rohan shorts.
Then I spotted this C&A skirt as well as another pair of Marks trousers which are thicker so would be good for gardening.
And then, last of all, I couldn't resist some more biscuit cutters for £3.50.
Sorry for the immensely long post as well as the enormous photos which I can never resize on here, don't know why it doesn't work for my laptop, and now I'm going to have to have a declutter to make space for all these new things."She could squeeze a nickel until the buffalo pooped."

I'm looking for blue things lately as I recently bought a blue sofa and curtains for downstairs. Of course now I can't find anything blue in charity shops. I had a class in Leigh-on-sea this morning, but the shops I walked past were closed. I then thought I would try the boot sale as I have never been and walked there to find it wasn't on today for some reason. Very unsuccessful day all round.2025 GOALS

@goldfinches. Wow…just…Wow😳. Some great bargains there! I can never manage to resize photos on here either!
Another visit from Daffers again this morning 🦆 still with seven ducklings in tow. Daphne was busy eating the lavender bush and the ducklings couldn’t manage to hop up the steps so there was much sqealing and squawking til they realised there was a ramp nearby. One duck and family haven’t made too much mess fortunately, (she did destroy a bit of the front garden where she nested last year). I’ve been told the reason they have a second brood is when the first one comes to grief but I refuse to believe that preferring to think of the original 15 or so ducklings happily living on a duckpond in Duckland somewhere. Gawd….I will be giving the ducklings names soon at this rate.😆
