Evening all, hope you're all enjoying your Bank Holiday and that the weather isn't too discouraging wherever you are.
I went a bit mad in the Summertown charity shops this morning so it was a good thing that only two out of the four were open.
First from the Scope shop a SeaSalt cotton woven t-shirt £6.25 which I'm not sure will suit me but will return if it doesn't. Then a pair of Boden trousers in a nice light weight cotton, £9.25 and lastly a Damart knitted cardigan with a pretty embroidery for £6.50. Again, I'm not sure about the cardigan because the colour really isn't good on me but for wearing indoors over the winter I think it'll be perfect.
Then I went on to the hospice shop and abandoned all self control aided and abetted by the lovely man on the till who kept saying encouragingly that I "could always try it at home and see" whenever he spotted me humming and hawing. He must be tripling their income at the very least!
I also noticed a couple of concerning signs over the china shelves in the second room, the first said that stealing £50 from this shop meant that one child would have to go without a day of hospice care and the second said that stealing £20 from this shop would mean that a child would have to go without something else, I can't remember what now. I'm appalled that a charity shop would feel they have to post such notices and in an area where most people are in the top 5% of earners although I know that doesn't apply to everyone and certainly not to me.
Anyway, I then snapped up a beautiful edition of Lark Rise to Candleford partly for the photographs of rural life and also because I suspect reading it at school ruined a good book for me so want to have another go. So many good books were spoilt by reading a chapter a week and writing about it when I was at school that every time I'm reminded of one now I automatically give it another try and usually find I love it. I also got a night light and a scholarly book about sleep as well as a plug timer which I'm planning to use for the slow cooker. Then I thought Julia Child's memoir would be good to try too.
Then here are the clothes I snaffled from their rails. Left top to right Per Una light coloured cords, straight leg £8, Jeans £8, Designer jeans Massimo Dutti I think £17.50 but I do love the darker colour, Land's End striped long sleeved top £8, Land's End aqua short sleeved exercise top £7 and then at the bottom an orangey yellow t-shirt with lovely embroidery along the front £6.50.
Like I said, it's a good thing the other two shops were closed or who knows how much more I'd have spent, still I enjoyed myself and will weed out some bits to donate this week as a quid pro quo.12 -
@goldfinches I snaffled that copy of Lark Rise from my parents home when we cleared it, it's a lovely edition.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Not much doing here with the car boots over the BH due to the high winds and sudden heavy downpours. Nothing of interest to be found in the chazza shops either until this morning in Ripon in the YMCA shop I found a BNWT, Phase Eight, pure silk dress, bias cut with a cowl neckline for £7.95. Original price £90.Planning on wearing it with a pinky/cream jean jacket and trainers to dress it down a bit even tho some fashionista in a Sunday mag said recently that the mididress/JJ/trainer combo was aging!!! Pah!!12

love that dress.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!6 -
Gorgeous dress @Miró
i am visiting family up north. Today I found PE kit in the next size up for LO and also a few casual kids clothes items 5 for £1 - I have never seen these prices in London!
I got a pair of shorts, a swimsuit and a beach cover up all £1 each
last of the big spenders 🤭.10 -
@Miró - lovely dress and I think your outfit suggestion sounds perfect so never mind the fashionista who after all has to find something different to write about every week.
@Floss - glad to hear we share such good taste in books, I'm looking forward to enjoying the story this time round too.
@D123456789 - clever you for spotting such bargains especially the PE kit; school uniform was always so expensive when my daughters were younger and I really resented that."She could squeeze a nickel until the buffalo pooped."

(Says she who was wondering what the right footwear for a midi dress was & what sort of jacket. Thank you!)10 -
Agree @DigForVictory if they are so passé why is it still the footwear of choice on the streets? Anyway what do they know, they are paid by companies to push certain products. Wear what you want and enjoy it, I do.
My charity shop haul this week was a loss apart from a Tony Hancock LP8 -
