In our family, "the knicker elastic" is a domestic euphemism for "bladder control" & if any son tries to "ewww" they are reminded that this is All Their Fault for using my poor self as their personal bouncy castle in utero.
Last I tried to buy a slip in person, the only market stall that had them the owner was on holiday & (as I recall) I took shears to a T shirt to get half slip coverage if not the ease of drape. I did check M&S but apparently I resemble Queen Victoria in her later years, rounder than she was tall, & M&S doesn't aim for that particular warrant.
Bike shorts? Boggles happily at website which looks most intriguing. (Is dressing for a wedding As a Guest usually this complex? Or have I just been getting by as my family know I'd rather spend spend time with a book?!)
Back to charity shops - I bought a wedding dress with a view to eviscerating it to make a christening robe, but when it arrived, I realised it wouldn't drape as I hoped, so that's going back to the charity shop & I wish them another happy punter.8 -
I called in to just one hospice shop chazzer this morning - I nearly didn't bother as I wasn't in the right frame of mind for it, but am ever so glad I did. For 50p I bought a glass lemon squeezer to replace the one I dropped last week (tiny glass shards are still turning up despite having vacuumed and mopped the kitchen tiles a million times!), and for just £5 a bag of a dozen assorted cutting and embossing plates plus embossing folders and a spacer block/shim for the Cuttlebug die cutting machine I bought earlier in the week. I am so pleased with these (they are well used but still perfectly serviceable) as replacement new plates are something daft like £20 each.8

goldfinches said:@DigForVictory - hooray for finding the dresses and heartily agree with you about models. I also think more people would enjoy shopping for clothes if there was a real choice of flattering items rather than just having to accept the few things that fit.
@Brie - I had no idea F & F sold bike shorts and I need some padded ones because the roads around here are full of potholes which can't always be avoided and my poor tailbone is bruised, so I shall look in Mr T's forthwith.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. @Miró I have a pair of those M&S flats; very comfy and go with everything! Just catching up on everyone's finds and having a leisurely bank holiday. Yesterday I went to a 50th for an old school friend in the town we went to school in (Colchester). I was able to squeeze in some Charity shopping, though I was annoyed at myself as I couldn't get there until 3.30 and lots of them shut at 5 and I only found a few too late! But probably just as well as I had a bit of a splurge:
- A Zadig & Voltaire t-shirt with tags on for £4. Really pleased with this as it's lovely (grinning sparkly skull on the front!) and Z&V are crazy expensive new.
- A pair of Goose Island trousers, £4.99. Looks like a little independent shop in Wales but the trousers are lovely. Wide, floaty, in a green pattern. Will see if I can do a photo a bit later. Already wearing them and am in love.
- A Phase Eight shirt in white with a pale pink pattern of stripes. Linen, smart, only £2.99
- A pair of Heavenly Feet sandals. £8 from the Dog's Trust. I like Heavenly Feet (tend to be very comfy) but these are very glitzy and only really suitable for holidays. But I have a few of those coming up. :-)
- A FatFace broderie top in blue. Looks unworn. £8. And a pair of cream summer trousers from Zara, also £8.
Wide variation in charity shop pricing in Colchester. The Dogs Trust is easily the nicest charity shop in town, but correspondingly pricey. The Z&V t-shirt was from the Salvation Army (always reasonable) and the other bits from Oxfam (shabby, but not too expensive). There was a hospice vintage shop (very pricey) and an Emmaus, which I didn't get to. I'll do photos when I can! Happy long weekend, shoppers...9 -
@Miró I have those M and S shoes in Wedgwood blue they’re v comfy.
im a huge fan of Chubrub shorts and always wear them under dresses and skirts in summer. I prefer SLOGGI ones as they are mostly cotton. I also have some M and S culotte slips which are super comfy.
