Oooooh @Magpie100 that is a glorious cardi! Sorry to be a Debbie Downer and also for continuing the moth theme but a few years ago I brought a beautiful embroidered baby alpaca jumper back from Peru. Kept it for best as ya do
and when I reached for it several months later bliddy moth grubs had eaten away almost the whole of the front of the garment, (and they had had a nibble of the wool jumper next to it). I have often heard that Spirit of the Andes garments are prone to being infested right from the manufacturing stage, moths luurve alpaca apparently, so you might want to quarantine your lovely cardi in the freezer for a week or so....just in case! 6 -
I am glad that I was sitting down when I investigated the brand - you weren't exaggerating about the prices!!Magpie100 said:
Gahh, I can never get photos to post! Ooh - here it is!
My recent bargain - an Edinburgh Woolen Mill rainmac for £1 - pales in comparison with your bargain!!No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.6 -
@Miró ooh thank you for the warning! Perhaps they meant DAMAGED BY MOTH INFESTATION. But at £2 I'll take my chances. Need to look up the freezer thing online - do you just shove it in the freezer in a bag for a week?
@Rose_Damascena the prices are crazy, aren't they. I love that they are 100% natural and no doubt labour-intensive to make, but really, who knew alpaca were such a premium product!
The EWM rainmac sounds brilliant for a £1 - hurrah to us both.9 -
Local Charity Shop held an evening last night selling tickets - £5 - for a Glitz and Glamour event and had been saving up their party clothes. There were some sensational bargains there, I bought a lovely black jacket, unworn with tags for £5, girlfriend bought an unworn pair of shoes for £2. There was lots of stuff I really wanted but just didn't fit, hilariously I was trying to pretend an LK Bennett Jacket (£5) was not too big for me (it really really was) so handed to a woman next to me who tried her very best to squeeze into it, then giggling, we spotted a woman it would fit so we told her she had to try it on. It was such a lovely shopping evening, so friendly, really social. Th shop manager said she was trying to recreate the clothing parties she remembered her mum held and she absolutely succeeded. I hope the shop raised a lot, they deserved to for the effort.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!12 -
That sounds like a lot of fun!Watty1 said:Local Charity Shop held an evening last night selling tickets - £5 - for a Glitz and Glamour event and had been saving up their party clothes. @Magpie100 I always double bag my woollens in plastic bags (!), leave for about a week, then defrost them still in the bags, don't unfold till back to room temperature.9 -
I'm off decanter hunting for my sisters tomorrow. This year Every first cousin or sis gets one. Simpler, fairer (ish) and I have some fun squashes to go with them. There is a Wicked-themed squash that is green & faintly sparkly, so the sister who was chugging it on zoom is going to get more for Christmas & a decanter keep it in if I can find enough... Why be "something they want", when with the aid of charity shops you can be flat out eccentric?!
As for the younger cousins, they get the box of quality street & not even a mug each. Had any of them sent me a thankyou letter, it might all have been so different, but I've decided that where cuts have to be made, those who have upheld Standards should not be penalised. Although receiving a bottle of green glitter squash may indicate just how well sis & I have got on recently.
May your festive gift giving this year be of entertainment. There aren't enough roaring eccentrics - we should be educating the young & nurturing those who do not toddle in lockstep with the latest fashions.13 -
It's being a good day. The local charity shop (which mum had not realised was there - she really does not get out enough) had a lovely decanter of graceful undulating lines and change from a fiver. (The customer before me was a delightful young person buying a saucepan & lid, properly tested for noise when struck - really, can you start them on cooking too young?!)
And once again, another glad cry for Age UK, this weekend in Bicester, who entered into the "hunt the decanter" chase with great tolerance (really how many stressed eccentrics do they get on the phone each week?! Do they get training? As they're Wonderful) Sister #2 will be dropping in to buy the decanter (password, "kill them with kindness") for sister #3 then bringing it over for me to wash & wrap & then tomorrow I can flee North with a strong feeling of "if I've forgotten, it's now not happening This Year". And focus on those utterly details oriented awkward blighters, my offspring...
Edited to add, lady mother looks absolutely stunning in the la redoute long sleeved breton tee, but the neckline does rather require a scarf once you're over 80. Fortunately, she has an assortment, although not a patch on Brie!9 -
2 pairs of black boots:
The shorter ones are Clark’s and are furry lined. I have the same ones in brown (also from the CS) and they are super warm and comfy so delighted to spot these for £3.50.
The long ones are Michel and are beautifully soft leather. I rarely find boots that fit my tiny trotters and larger calf so was also delighted to find these at £5.
Pretty pale pink Papaya tee £1. 50
M and s white square necked tee £1.50
Cream long sleeved M and S Good Move PE top £1.50
Cos black denim below the knee skirt £1.50
Khaki Accessorise canvas tote bag with pink and khaki straps £4
Navy and white striped Braves Soul tank top £3
Heathcote and Ivory body moisturiser in a very pretty box £1.50.10 -
Bit of a splurge last weekend 😮. Save the Children in Northallerton keep getting donations of b/n clothes from Hobbs….all in sample sizes. Could not resist a pair of wide leg, navy trousers priced at £25. Gorgeous fabric, fully lined and a perfect fit. My reasoning was….I would have to pay more than that for a basic pair of trousers in M & S, average price on Hobbs website is £129, and ……it helps the charity!

Yesterday in the Otley St Gemma’s 99p shop I got a b/n swimsuit for 99p ☺️ Just the style I would normally have to search and search for…long body and no high cut legs….perfect! Roll on summer🌞

I have a mini break in Brighton next week and I'm hoping to find some nice things in the chazzers while I'm there. I got a really nice white denim jacket when I was there in the summer. I think it was a Mind store.10
