I'm starting to wonder if I imagined it - but no, listen from 21:20: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/w3ct8txlRosa_Damascena said:Just heard - moths can apparently survive for 9 months in outer space (extreme temperatures and in a vacuum). Learning they can survive -150degC is not good news.
But I now realise I did mishear it - the subject matter is MOSS not moths. I can rest easy knowing that moths are not the new cockroaches

I just popped in to the local Age Concern (they've rebranded & I keep forgetting to what - but we're on Excellent Terms as I always call before arriving with donations) as I was hoping they might have a thumping great glass vase. Mum gets a lot of flowers at Christmas & when the wine cooler & two enamel coffeepots are in play, as all the crystal ones are stuffed, I feel we should be trying harder. And yes, there it was, plain, glass tube, spot on and change from £4.
And alongside it, two decanters, which each were below the £10 threshold, and at the desk they had William Morris notelets (at exorbitant prices, really, nearly £4 for 10 but Aunt Adores William Morris, so...) And as they began searching for bubble wrap, I flicked through the clothing & there was a very nice la redoute long sleeve t shirt in a sort of Breton style which mum wears so well, so mum is doing rather better than the £10 threshold but its still All Charitably Sourced. (Apparently £27 new, to me £3)
And now two cousins will get decanters one brand new from Amazon that was too big for me to lift one handed, & another 'ethically sourced' that she can do as she sees fit with. The shop staff suggested I send a bottle with, to show the decanter at its colourful best, & I explained the financial thresholds, but we gurgled with laughter that we could always say "It was filled with something expensive & exotic when I left it with my sisters for carrying over!"... And I am gazing on the third decanter & wondering who merits this lovely longnecked beauty that might perhaps be Edinburgh crystal but I can't ID the pattern...12 -
If it's the same charity - rebrand nationally probably to Age UK (and then possibly with local name attached at the end).DigForVictory said:I just popped in to the local Age Concern (they've rebranded & I keep forgetting to what -
But we had a local charity shop which, wayback, was Barnardos but is now an entirely different charity.7 -
That's them - Age UK (I used to know them in my childhood as "help the ancient", which got me some rather stiff looks from senior relatives until they realised I wasn't being a sarcastic little blighter) who up our way have terrific volunteers. Who even take feedback "you could add <pattern name> to that label - it might sell faster" from me on Denby.5

Ah, yes, Help the Aged merged with Age Concern back in 2009 and led to the Age UK branding.DigForVictory said:That's them - Age UK (I used to know them in my childhood as "help the ancient", which got me some rather stiff looks from senior relatives until they realised I wasn't being a sarcastic little blighter) who up our way have terrific volunteers. We still have an independent charity called Age Concern. They have a drop in centre with cafe, do meals on wheels deliveries, have services such as chiropodist, hairdresser and run exercise classes.
They have two charity shops and we all try to support them.I knit for them.10 -

Hello, hello, hope you are all feeling not too moth-eaten!
I've found a few things this week:
- A grey Karrimor long-sleeve top with bright orange trim for dog-walking, £3. (Incidentally, the Junge coat is AMAZING and I say a prayer of thanks to the charity shop gods every time I wear it. Warm, waterproof and not too heavy - the holy grail. It was especially good in the cold this week...)
- A black vest top with silver sparkles from Tu for £3. Holiday season coming up, so this can go under other sparkly things.
- A pair of Brasher walking trousers for £3. Look unworn. Slightly concerned they might be a bit small for me, but will sell or donate if so.
- A Uniqlo Heatech roll neck underlayer, £3.
- A pale pink boucle jacket by Anyday. Obviously will need to wait until spring, but it's lovely! £8.99.
- and my bargain of the day: a bright red cardigan by Spirit of the Andes. Knitted in Peru, and their stuff is SO expensive: https://spiritoftheandes.co.uk/?srsltid=AfmBOoq2zu-r_o6rpk24uV0Uv0C-M0XoDF90_aD3uSMkv1wkcSYkorlx.
The cardigan said 'Damaged', so was £2. I had a very close look in the shop, and all I can't see a thing. It's 100% baby alpaca with five buttons down the front, and is gorgeous. Maybe the damage will reveal itself in time, but for £2 it was worth bringing home with me!8 -
Here it is, I hope. The only thing I can see is the slightly unusual way the shoulders are stitched, but that's intentional as they match!4

Gahh, I can never get photos to post! Ooh - here it is!
