Well yesterday was not cheap 😑 if I didn't laugh I'd have cried.
Youngest yoof is not (yet!) into designer items or labels but desperately needed new trainers and PE trainers so you can imagine 2 lots plus 2 lots of undies (also not cheap even from Primarni!) and socks (these seem to either disappear or grow holes in our house) and my wallet was considerably lighter. After a trip to Sp@rts D£rect I needed a lie down as it was chaos in there.
Still the tide has definitely turned in our house as DH asked me 3 times to confirm I paid cash and not on a CC for yesterday's purchases. As a joke I showed him the transactions via the banking app to prove the point 😂. It was a nice moment though as it confirmed he is on board as much as i am about getting DF . The poor clothing pot has been decimated but I guess it's mostly there to absorb these back to school uniform costs.
My own personal minimal year of clothing purchases continues although I have finally ordered some new shoes for work. If you remember my current ones have a rather large crack in the sole which renders them no longer watertight. I did debate getting them resoled but tbh they are about 7+ years old so I don't feel too bad at replacing them (found a bargin pair at 35 pounds online). I also purchased some replacement undergarments yesterday as again some had seen better days and I'm sure your only supposed to have leg and waist holes in pants 😂😂
A NSD day today other than my usual SIM contract payment (still at 0.79 thanks MSE) and it'll be a low spend weekend as I'm doing overtime.
Hope everyone is well and not melted in the heat xxLBM Oct 24

Early entry tonight as guess what? Yep my weekend to work 😂 Never worked so many weekends voluntarily since I started this diary. Today was day 2 of 6 days stretch, which for a lazy person who works part time, seems Very Long. I'm ignoring the extra days I'm rostered to do in Nov which means a 7 day stretch - I'll cross that bridge when I get there and no doubt moan loudly about it. Guarantee I won't moan about the extra money in Dec's pay packet though 😂🎅
NSD today although I'm still recovering from shoe shopping, and as I have given up non essential shopping for 2025, I'm still in a state of semi shock.
I have redirected my "save the cash" automatic bank option into a "debt over payment" pot this month. It's really not a lot but currently stands at £5 so I'm going to ping that over to the 0% card with the shortest date balance transfer on - there's £309 to pay by the end of Sept and I am determined it will be cleared rather than transferred. I'm reasonably confident I will do it and if not shall sacrifice some of the EF. There's 2 pay days between now and the end date and the DD is set at 100 quid anyway so £204 to find.
Hope everyone has a good weekend and that noone melts from the heat!LBM Oct 24

School shoe shopping is always painful. Well done for not putting it on a card, and well done on the debt busting!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0

Halfway there as Bon Jovi sing in Living on a Prayer.
Halfway through my work week. I was suitably tired last night but needed some fresh air and to stretch my legs after work yesterday so borrowed a dog from a neighbour and went for a good tramp across the local fields and did 3 miles. I'm starting to really notice the evenings drawing in - when i was younger it never bothered me but as ive got older I really have started to dislike the dark early evenings of Autumn/winter although I do like how the seasons change.
Due to work it was a NSD day yesterday although I do need to order some stationery bits and a dictionary today but these should be the ABSOLUTE LAST of the back to school bits needed.
Pleased to see my MSE score and credit totals have updated and the credit owed has gone DOWN and the affordability score is UP. Those little achievements keep the motivation going 💪

The little small wins are all a step in the right direction, it is that motivation that the things you are doing are working, even though it is tough at times.
I love the change of seasons, I am deffo an autumn kinda person, but I hate the getting up and going to work in the dark and then driving home in the dark it makes the day seem so much longer.

@FootyFanDan I do love crisp Autumn days with leaves and bonfire smells! I'm not so good at the dark mornings and getting up 😂
Well another bit of overtime in the bag 💪 although crumbs I am tired. I keep telling myself it's for a Greater Good and I know come Sept payday I will be grateful for the extra dosh.
I sent the over payment today to the soonest ending 0% balance - £5.62 so not exactly an earth shattering moment but as the saying goes every little helps. Hopefully I shall have a little more to shove in that direction but I keep wondering what I've missed from the budget this month as I seem to have more money than usual for 9 days before pay day. Maybe because most the spending has been from allocated pots that don't frequently get used? Anyway I'm going to hang onto every penny until I'm totally sure I haven't forgotten something.
I did order those last back to school bits as I was mithering about making sure everything is in order ready. There's 2 weeks to go til mine go back and I can't decide if the summer hols have gone super quick or very slowly 😂 Mind you the year seems to have zipped by so far so could be my perception of time. I'm heading towards Month 9 of my diary and it doesn't seem 5 mins since I started it but well done and thank you if you've managed to stick with me and my waffling!LBM Oct 24

Wow that 9 months of your diary has flown by. What great progress you've made ! You deserve to be very proud of yourself and of your family for the complete change of mindset towards spending and money.2
