I would definitely look at your mortgage options- my current one had no fee attached other than the valuation fees. It's worth bunging your details into the calculators on here and looking at the 1 year cost than the lower monthly payments, on a smaller loan the £1.5k fees I was seeing for arranging a lower monthly payment were not recouped in the savings over 5 years (this was earlier this year for £115k over 16 years). I definitely would NOT add debt on to the mortgage - aside from the secured / non-secured issue, it maybe a lower rate but over a really long time so you'd end up paying more.

Well done on your bravery including your signature - you've done stonkingly well, that's nigh on a grand a month you've shifted!

    Land of confusion- Disturbed

I know I know this is not the original but gosh I do like the Disturbed as a band.

Every time I think I know the road I'm trudging down, stuff happens that tries to push me off it. Dh is still considering remortgaging and incorporating the debt temporarily til my mums inheritance comes through.l (and I will be honest I flit between this might work to this is chuffing insanity).   My complicated work situation got more complicated by a 40 credit masters qualification both jobs want me to do but aren't willing to budge on hours to do it in (it's ok I'll just not sleep for 6 months 🙄 and no it wont mean a payrise). I've been pulled into referring an extended family disagreement. Plus one job has approached me again about dropping the other and going full time with them but my heart just isn't in it and  says no but gosh it's hard.

Over the last few weeks though I've done some digging into all my "insurance" type policies - it was enlightening. Turns out I am worth an awful lot more dead than I am alive 😂  The next post might be from me hiding in an attic ....

(Loose joke regarding canoe man. Tempting and whilst I'd do it soooooooo much better I'm too emotional to stay away from the yoofs for any length of time)

Sounds like you could do with some time in the attic to figure out what you want to do and what would benefit you, rather than what others want you to do.

    Greetings from the attic 😆

I'm hiding and keeping my head low from all the internal and external emotional war zones that appear to be raging all around me at the moment.

Yesterday was an essential spend day - Big T delivery that should see us through to pay day alongside some "eat the freezer" meals and fuel. I tried to be quite canny as I had 5% cashback for a supermarket including their petrol stations and the city where I work tends to be a lot cheaper fuel wise than where I actually live - not insignificant either at 7p difference especially when I spend as much as I do. Hoping that the big tank top up will also see me through to pay day which means I can save the remainder from the petrol pot budget (which incidentally has been working really well - this has been an area money wise I really feel I have achieved a good budget balance)

I also spent a frustrated hour trying to upload the new car insurance certificate to the work expenses system so I can claim some mileage expenses- gave up in the end and ended up emailing the relevant department for assistance.

This morning I have saved and saved some money to have my hair done - I've managed to really stretch the time between appointments this year amd it's been nearly 5 months and whilst I don't think of myself as "high maintenance"  I'm really looking forward to a refresh. And in the spirit of Dave Ramsey (who is still popping up on my SM left, right and centre) I will be paying in cash rather than on the CC. Going to go early so I can find a free parking space rather than paying.

Youngest yoof is very excited as he has been "booked" for his 1st paying gig today - I'm starting him young!! It won't be enough money to retire on but he is super proud of his 1st "job".

    Wisemen  - James Blunt

I have decided being an adult just sucks sometimes. I think about the worries I had in yesteryears and think gosh what was I thinking coz adult worries are so much worse  😂😂  tonight's song is tongue in cheek as I do not feel very wise at all.

A NSD day today and a steady day at work. Hoping the petrol will last the week until payday- I do need to get the car washed next weekend though.as it's filthy.

Along with everything that continues to rumble around me (still negotiating stormy waters) I also have the dreaded dentist and hygienist this week and typically whenever I get stressed my hyperchondria about my teeth rears it's head. Its been so bad I've been terrified to eat anything although this is good for the waistline as my water consumption has gone right up.

Mortgage advisor appointment is booked so that's a positive and it'll be interesting to see what they say.

    On I plod.

Take it to the limit - The Eagles

Early entry tonight more as a bookmark for myself than anything. My limits emotionally are nearly past the point of no return and i have hit the inevitable crutch of a beer (although my CCs are still tucked up tightly until the day I can chop them up). Luckily no work tomorrow although I need to do some stuff in preparation for the rest of the week but that can be done at home.

I have spent an unexpected £25.96 today but I crashed the petrol pot for this. I'm not proud but atleast it wasn't the EF and it was cash 😂

I have the dentist tomorrow and I am dreading it. I have though decided to proactively contact my specialists (who's drugs keep me going but are negatively impacting on my teeth) to ask them to look at other options. My teeth hyperchondria is in full force tonight . My retirement age is 68 and at this rate I'll be lucky to hit 50 😂😂😂

Not quite Hotel Calafornia just yet .....

    Secret Smile  - Semisonic

Today was most definitely NOT a NSD.

I never used to be terrified of the dentist but as ive got older I have increasingly become so - they always seem to find something that needs fixing!! I had budgeted for the anticipated cost (£150)  but I ended up needing a filling redoing so that cost an extra £162 on top.  Thank goodness for the EF or I would have been up the creek without a paddle and shoving it on a CC. Still my fastidious oral routine is paying off which gives me hope!

Back to work tomorrow and roll on payday which is Friday.  Next time I plan a change of career though I'm coming back as a dentist.
