I have made loads of Pavlovas over the years and sadly I have completely lost the knack. I made one on Saturday for lunch on Sunday and despite whipping the egg nicely it refused to hold its air once the sugar was in. I ended up baking it in a flan tray to stop it escaping the oven. So I tried again on Sunday morning and it was even worse. It was a bit like an omelette meringue. We used the first one which at least tasted like pavlova on Sunday. Today we ate the second one with ice cream, kiwi and bananas. I christened it Frankenstein pavlova. I think I have invented a new pudding but I don’t think it will catch on. But I decluttered it to our tummies because otherwise it was going in the bin. I have decided not to make any more pavlovas. 🙁11

The tree has been up for about a week. I easily located the xmas decs box even though it was in the Room of Doom as I had previously stuck a big picture (from an expired calendar) of a kitten wrapped in tinsel on the front of it so it was easily identifiable from a distance.
The smug feeling disappeared as soon as I opened the box as, although it did indeed contain the tree decs, there was no tinsel in sight.
Things went from bad to worse when the bottom of the box then fell out and the tree lights failed to work. I had always had 2 sets of tree lights and sadly last year I had to throw out a set that had finally conked out. I had their original box and they were from Woolworths
so had served me well.
Losing the other set was a bit annoying as not many local places to buy replacements especially as I'm fussy and prefer 1970's style multi coloured lights to trendy white ones. Checking online the local sm was selling various coloured ones so off I went to buy a box of 200 only to find the only coloured ones they had were a box of 300 albeit very tiny bulbs.
I always put them on the tree after all the decs and tinsel are on and always leave the back of the tree bare but this time about 50 lights were "left over" so I left them in a pool at the bottom of the tree rather than re-do them all. I must put a note on the lights box for next year to remind myself to wrap them all round the tree.
And here it is...

- Write a daily To Do list - only 3 tasks
- Concerted effort to sort out sleep patterns - Realistic targets: bed by 2:00 a.m. & up by 10:00 a.m
- Continue dealing with mail & email on a daily basis
- Don’t put it down, put it away + deal with mini tasks as soon as they are noticed e.g. refill olive oil pourer or salt cellar, stitch up a hole in a garment etc
- Commence ‘Operation Frog Tickling’ using the acronym - I.R.I.S. (Identify, Research, Implement, Sign Off) - One per quarter
- Continue to keep kitchen clean & tidy - before going to bed
Tuesday was a dull dark day with a high of 8°C (feeling 5° colder due to a quite strong & chilly north easterly wind) & a low of 6°C DSis went out for another unsuccessful wander. DH & DSis went to As** mainly to pick up drinks & a few vegetables but came back with even more sweet treats 😞 Whilst they were out I made some cheese savouries - I put a few in the TLC Carriage before they all disappeared as my DSis absolutely loves them.

I have finished prepping the 2025 Awards List + did some more knitting & completed a hat. Dinner was lo mushroom risotto breadcrumbed & shaped into risotto cakes which I shallow fried. Wudupa.

Muddy_Walker, I love the bedroom furniture 😻 Also your Christmas tree is beautifully decorated & I love that it is flanked by what looks like 2 GoT style swords 🗡️ - Rogan is gorgeous too ☺️
vulpix, sounds like a lovely Christmas to look forward to 🥹 Good luck getting your laundry done 🍀 As to This “I have found a fabulous gold lurex jumper that I got my Mum to knit me in the 80's. I just told her, I want a short tight body, V neck, bell sleeves and she came up trumps. I have finally admitted It will never fit me again in a million years. I will take it to see if DD1 wants it. Hope so, it is a work of art.” your Mum is so talented 🤩 I really hope that DD1 wants it 🤞
Wednesday2000, hopefully the pet portrait won’t take too long even if it is not ready for Christmas. Wow, 44 classes in 2025 🤩 you have certainly had a very busy year.
Willowtree222, congratulations 🥳 A huge change 🤩 & good luck with whatever new path you follow 🍀 hopefully less stressful 🙏
Green_hopeful, such a pity about the pavlovas 😔 Maybe try again in 6 months 🤔
