If you can't buy a ICE car then eventually you won't be able to drive one isn't that being told

How many people complaining will be too old or otherwise unable to drive in 2050?

The kind of noise I'm hearing now is similar to the noise when incandescent lightbulbs were banned or vacuum cleaners limited. There might actually be an interesting Venn diagram or two I could think up.

    No.

Exactly as booner said - from 2035 (so ten years from now) new ICE cars will be banned.  No one is stopping anyone driving ICE cars after that point, just that you wont be able to buy a brand new one.

Indeed.  Given the average life of a car is 16 years, those that want to can still be happily chugging around in a fossil car until at least 2051.  By which time petrol will only be available in cartons from a hardware store at £95 a litre, and you probably won't be allowed to drive one in any town or city due to emissions, noise, etc, but hey-ho.
Yes, we'll see then how many of these supposed nay saying ICE die hards can suddenly make EVs work for them.

    What would be stopping you?

What age will you be by 2050?  If you've such strong views about the propulsion method of your car, then you can no doubt continue driving one, just like people have cars now way in excess of 16 years.

And what is the problem with that anyway?  Why does it matter what the propulsion method is of your car?

The government telling me I can't buy a new one would be stopping me I currently do around 25000 miles a year and I don't want a car with half a million miles
    I'll be 88 in 2050
That's what I keep saying I doesn't matter what we power our cars with we should be allowed to choose not told by government

Why is Tesla so reluctant to launch a "people's" car?  Damage it's profit margins?  Blow away the mystic that surrounds the brand making it a must have accessory for the rich.

I say we should power cars with the blood of kittens (the cuter the better). And the government can't stop us!

If the 2035 deadline remains in place, then I don't imagine any maker will still be churning out ICE cars up to the end of 2034. The realistic end of new ICE cars will be some years ahead of that.

Are you really expecting to do 25,000 miles a year in 15 years time, let alone 25 years time??

There is a requirement to address our use of fossil fuels and global warming, thus why the production of new ICE cars is being phased out.

We can feel butt hurt about something thats not going to impact us for 15+ years now, or we can wait and see how it pans out, knowing that EV range is increasing year on year, and charging points are increasing too.

Like any car brand they have a target market.

Lets be honest though, they're not going to compete with the chinese on cheap EVs.  Thats where your "peoples car" comes in to play.

Also whats the average PCP and fuel cost of a new car these days?  I'd wager its an easy £350 a month plus deposit and maybe £200 a month on fuel, so £550 a month.  Tesla will lease you a brand new Tesla Model £300 for £500 a month.
