I think if you are happy with life on benefits and don't aspire to particular career, lifestyle, or income levels, then you should just let go and stop fighting with yourself, no judgement whatsoever, and see what the doctor says. There will be no fancy chairs, but you have quite low fixed expenses, so it could potentially work? Have you considered how it will impact your future pension, etc? Are you relying on family will/inheritance down the line? I feel flying solo can have its pros, but financially it's extra difficult being one income household, but if the benefits will cover you then nothing to worry about I guess? Stay strong xx

Btw, don't feel like you have to answer these questions, it's a public forum xx I just posted to give you something to think about. I think we're similar age, so there is likely still 40+ years of life on this planet, if we're lucky! xx

The best of luck to you, would there be any type of benefit that would help if you took a part time job due to your illness, a top up if you see what I mean. That way you would still feel you are contributing but not feel too much pressure that being away from home for 5 days brings ? Might be worth speaking to your GP anyway x

Hi Crazy, sorry to hear things are not going the way you've hoped for.
Don't be so hard on yourself with relation to benefits, it happens. I'm sure you can clearly see, it's not about "thought better of myself" - it's designed exactly for what it supposed to do - help people in need, it's not to segregate people into better or worse. You may be the very best, "upstanding citizen", but you need help and help is available. It's not like you're going to sainsbo to steal a few bottles of booze. You are trying your best to work with what you are given, so please don't think that way. You never know, this may be temporary, what if you start receiving benefits and then a nice, suitable job comes. Don't overthink xx

I do have to say though, you need to curb your spending. £32 for the month, and it's only 6th. Go through fridge, freezer, cupboards, make a list of what you have, befriend chatgpt for an evening or two to come up with a meal plan and ask it to suggest only few base top up ingredients, like pasta, rice, bagels, eggs, block of cheese, milk, etc. I'm sure you can do it, just put your mind to it. xx
