Turned on my tablet and fired up the app to have a quick look at gas consumption. Darned thing bombed out on the home page, and despite trying to open it again (and again), it keeps shutting down. Last time this happened, I ended up having to do a factory reset of the tablet <grrr>.
    I hate [redacted] apps.

  • Am I supposed to leave the home mini - running 24/7 ?
How long does it remain charged for - or should I leave it plugged in ?

So - if I do unplug it - do I have to go through the set up again ?

  • No. It resumes, as normal, after a power cut.

Settings are retained within the Home Mini. So you can unplug it, move to another room, or even shove it in the back of the drawer. Next time you plug it in, it will come to life and remember the settings.

I thought that I had the option of sending data every 5 minutes ?- I only get 30 minutes so far ....
And nothing today at all on gas or electricity.

What is the point of any of these apps and displays and how does keeping them running save you money ?

After a few days you should know what each of your appliances use each hour

You should know what you are using by your bills if you bother to read them

I had a smart meter fitted on Monday last week, I know how much all my appliances use per hour so I will be giving my IHD to my DIL at the weekend so she can find out what she uses for each appliance.
I'm afraid it doesn't work like that - the IHD is tied to your smart meter and you can't (easily) have it connected to another one.
So it can go in the bin then

When you get your electric car and heat pump, you'll be able to see monitor how much they're using.

If you have Home Assistant there's an integration for Octopus Energy which gives much better insight via the Home Mini and API:

  • Here's my usage - showing missing two days !
