They are sending me a replacement IHD
Which you should be very thankful for if the smart meter is over a year old they don't have to do that.

Although the OPs old IHD only stopped working because a numpty at Octopus disabled it and couldn't re-pair it to the HAN. Sending out a replacement seems only fair rather than something to be thankful for.
Cheers, should read the whole thing 👍

The worst thing is that Octopus claim to have green credentials
But are not wiing to accept my old IHD for recycling!!

Probably because they've not needed to set anything up to do that because people don't (apart from this one-off situation) have any need send them small electricals.

You can probably recycle it anywhere that participates in WEEE recycling.  Your local council might even take it as a small electrical; ours say to leave it in a carrier bag by the black bin on collection day, you'd have to check if yours does something similar.

Our council does the same - far less resource-heavy than sending something back to someone else to recycle!

My replacement IHD is arriving today!
I would have assumed that it would be all set up ready to plug in and use?
But no - I have to contact Octopus when it arrives to get the instructions
    How annoying and stupid
The reason that they sent me a replacement in the first place was that I am unable to speak on the phone - so instructions on how to recover the old unit would prove difficult !
What will they need to do in order to connect the new unit ?

Is there any way to get an IHD (or smartphone app) to display actual meter readings?

My IHD, supplied by Octopus shows my electricity meter readings and it’s accurate (checked against numbers on meter). Device is a Chameleon IHD7-PPMID judging by what’s written upon it.

I assume that there will be no recoverable personal data on the device or should I invite it to a meeting with Mr Hammer ?
