Evening all. Just sitting down after a fun day with grandchildren.
Thanks for the list. I will commence proper flying tomorrow.Spend less now, work less later.7 -
Thought it was quiet on the other thread, doh. Not sure why I was waiting for the end of the month to use the new thread link
I had a relaxing Sunday, it just felt like one of those days when hankering down and doing nothing was the best option. I did manage to hoover the downstairs and mop the floor and I repaired a zip for DH - which was a bit of a challenge as he'd pulled it off the end. I ended up putting a few tacks to hold it together near the end and attaching threads on each side of the tape to pull it through the slider. I then undid the taking and sewed the ends shut. DH is under strict instructions to let me know when the threads come loose next time rather than waiting to pull the zip off the ends. A stitch in time etc.
Work day today so nothing much else achieved, but fed birds, cat, emptied bins, put recycling out, folded the washing and stowed the clothes horses away. Now sat having a cat snuggle before bedtime.

been swimming. swim stuff washed. i think the water feed to wm is loose as there’s a bit of water. Might brave dragging it out and looking tomorrow. Washing brought in and ironed, now on maiden to fully dry off. tea was frozen chilli so more freezer space created.
mum, apparently, has been hysterical all day. This will be because dad stupidly talked about her appointment and would not drop the subject. She cannot cope with appointments at all now, so goodness only knows what state she’ll be in tomorrow. I am going to rise above it, I hope. Hopefully the skin lesion is nothing and she won’t have to have a procedure, but I have my doubts.
WM and DW locked and loaded.
goodnight.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
Thank you Honey Bear6 -
thanks for lists. I've hardly even lurked this last few days as it has been busy since my 1st 2 days at the new 'work' last Tues & Wed.
- Thurs drove to Dorset after Pilates and drum lesson. Some snow by roadside as we got closer, but journey was ok.
- had 2 good visits with Mum, started her Christmas card list, took her cards in and she wrote about half of them which is a good start as she wouldn't have known where to start on her own ( I just copied her address book from the spreadsheet I'd put it on earlier in the year, deleted all columns except 'name' and we went through with me marking who she sent cards to usually and who she got presents for).
- care home manager helped me finish off the attendance allowance form.
- with DB who joined us on Sat, went through the linen/towel cupboard, understairs cupboard, kitchen cupboards and dining room cupboards so we now know a) who wants what (no clashes), what can go to charity (boxed up if it won't be needed between now and when the house is sold) and we chucked out a load of rubbish/recycling. Achieved more than we expected. Mr N listed all the Wedgewood china so we know what is there if we can find a buyer. Ditto Poole pottery.
- did various running around taking ID to solicitors for house sale.
- copious amounts of vacuuming
- updated the 'to do' list on the shared document for DB and I to work through.
Got home last night and unpacked bags.
Today - one load washing on, hung out, put away including Mr N doing some ironing (I have hardly any clothes which need ironing, but had brought one blouse of Mum's back that she didn't want).
- zumba x 2
- did some pruning of now very wet, frosted stuff in the garden
- finished typing up attendance allowance form now ready to print
- unpacked and found homes for a boxful of items we'd adopted from Mum's house.
So that's roughly caught up, bound to have missed a bit but I haven't been too idle. That is tomorrow, as we are meeting stepbrother and SIL at Richmond for a meal and a ballet.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.8 -

Morning all. Lovely sunshine here again today.
So far:
- Wordle in 5, Strands with one hint, only 2 lines on Connections (stumped by American brands!)
- long text sent to DS1
- 2 cuppas drunk
- finances checked
- airer FUPA in bathroom
Today I need to
- sort the Christmas lights and label the 2 new boxes
- update the church website with all the extra services in December/January
- phone a friend or two
- deal with the old sofa
- wrap some presents
- order more presents as soon as I get the go-ahead from DD
- persuade DH to write his wish list and send it to DC (I wrote my own a couple of weeks ago)
- walk Rosie
- plant more bulbs in flowerpots, to put out in the gaps
- check what other ingredients I need to bake cakes next week for the church fair on the 7th
- finish the 9x9 cm designs for the roll-out icing on the mini-cakes I made last week: just simple cut-outs, eg snowman, wreath, spray of holly, stars, triangular Christmas tree. 10yo W is going to help me finish them on Saturday.
Somebody asked on the last thread how I made the mini cakes: sorry I didn't answer as soon as I read the question, but we were rushing away 24 hours earlier than planned to avoid Storm Bert. I bought these for the square cakes (less fiddly to cover than round ones, using squares of marzipan/roll-out icing) and they have proved excellent with no wastage of cake mix, as my recipe for an 8-inch square fruit cake gives 8 x 200g, plus a taste testerwhich I cooked in a mini loaf tin. I'll try to remember to put up a photo when we decorate them. In the past I have used round tin cans successfully, but they are best lined with baking paper, and personally I wouldn't use the pull-ring type as it leaves a lip all the way round the opening and you might not get the cake out whole! You could also cut a tray bake into squares/bars, but they wouldn't necessarily turn out level and would have difficult-to-cover crumbly sides.
DH is late getting breakfast this morning - I hear the popty ping announcing that the porridge is nearly ready
See you later xxx8
