I did (and still do) WW and I think it helps going to a group for the inspiration and support.Your car ordeal reminded me of years ago when we broke down on the way to Cornwall. We did eventually get the car fixed and reached our destination a lot later than planned. We were on tenterhooks on the way back home. That was a very expensive week away 😐
I feel that going to the group is making a big difference to me. Your food always sounds really nice. I need to be a bit more adventurous but there's still time for that!
It's so stressful when you break down isn't it. It used to happen a lot to my parents when we were kids, we always used to break down going to Cornwall. DH was for trying to get the car started again, but I said we might as well just wait for the breakdown company as we were in a good place and it was better than it happening either at the side of the road or somewhere with no signal! And even if we had got it started, I would have just been stressing the rest of the week that it would happen again. I dread to think what it's going to cost.Humdinger1 said:@jwil please pop over to the parking board where there'll be loads of advice on avoiding a 'fine' - or speculative invoice as it's more accurately described. BalanceBy50 said:Well done on your weight loss, you are doing amazing & as someone who struggles I know what an achievement it is. Glad you got a break but really wish the car hadn’t broken down for you. Both my sons play football so we buy a lot of boots, one son has narrow feet & one has wide feet & if you haven’t bought boots yet please don’t buy pull on sock type ones - they just don’t go on wide feet! Ask me how I know!! Lace up ones are better for wide feet. I feel your pain on school shoes, just spent £100 in a well known shop on 2 pairs. My friend got the blue light discount two weeks ago, last week they had stopped offering it on kids shoes!! I was not impressed xx
School shoe shopping is painful. That's annoying about the blue light discount, a very convenient time to stop it! We tried the pull on boots in the shop - there was no way they were going on. I can't believe they are all so narrow! I will definitely be looking for lace up ones.
NeverendingDMP said:Sorry the breakdown took away some of your holiday time. I hope you have managed to catch up on the lost sleep and glad you had a nice time for the rest of it x hopefully your car turns out to be something simple and cheap to fix and the camera etc wasn't working that day to save you the hassle of appealing a parking fine xI had a nice sleep last night so caught up mostly. I'm dreading the car bill, but hopefully it won't be anything too major. It needs two tyres too, but I'm not getting that done until I know what I'm facing otherwie.

I maintained today which I'm really pleased about as it means I can just get straight back on it with no catching up to do!
DH and I went food shopping so I'm all organised for the week again.
It's very hot so I'm just planning to chill this weekend. Back to work for me next week, but DH is still off which will be helpful in trying to get my car sorted, but he can also entertain the kids. I've not got any more time off apart from my usual Fridays and the bank holiday which is a bit depressing. I do still need to get the last bits sorted for school but that can wait.

I've been productive this morning. Got a gammon in the oven to have with salad at lunchtime. I've done a strength workout, and have been updating my spending and financial spreadsheets. Week away spends were not too much so that's good. I've updated my AVC contributions to £150 a month, up from £125. I'll keep gradually increasing it, but at the moment, I need my focus to be on building savings now.
I've bought 2 audio books in the audible sale using one credit which is a bargain as I'm on 3 months for 99p at the moment. I'm saving one credit for the new Strike book, and I will probably use the third on the latest Hunger Games book as I haven't read it yet and I have all the others on audio. I've got the book reserved on the library app, but it won't be available until November. I'll cancel again after the 3 months as I don't need any more audio books as I have plenty I haven't listened to yet.
DH went out to look at my car yesterday and it started straight away which is annoying, but also good as hopefully it means we can drive it to the garage instead of getting it recovered. I still don't trust it enough to use it, so am going with DH to the car boot this morning so we can stop at a shop on the way back. At least I'll get some more steps in!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee4 -

Well the trip to the car boot was successful! I wasn't planning on buying anything but got some football boots for little jwil for £2 and some wellie boots for little miss for forest school for £1. Both fit, so result! I also picked up a couple of SW recipe books for me for 50p each. Plus got some steps in
I've printed off the rescue report from the breakdown company so we have it for when we speak to the garage. It's got all the fault codes on it so that will be helpful.
Just planning to chill this afternoon."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee2
