Anyone else had their Creation credit card cancelled without explanation?

  • I am aware there is no legal obligation to give a reason for cancelling a credit card. I have read and understand the Ts and Cs. However, it would be polite and good business practice to gove a reason.
  • Yes, I have had the same. I've been with Creation when it was managing IHG, maybe 10 years plus ago and have always paid the balance in full. I have never had a problem. As I have been renovating an old house my monthly spend is usually £5k. I guess I m not making them any money by not paying interest. Does anyone know if IHG UK will be finding a new manager for their reward cards? Also what is clause 14?
  • Exactly the same for me, got an email cancelling my credit card, been a customer for many years, pay in full each month. Obviously they don't make enough money out of me.
  • I also had an email giving me notice on 20th November invoking Clause 14, although I have been with Creation for years, originally had Asda credit card which was run by Creation and moved over to Creation fully.  I always pay off my card every month.  I have sent them a message, having logged on my account and clicked on "contact us" at the bottom of the page, I recommend everyone does the same, and complains.  Once you move to another provider your credit score is impacted, luckily I have a top  score, but I am sure other people may experience problems, in addition Creations details remain on your reports for 6 years.  Creation clearly have a problem with people who pay their bills off.  Martin Lewis always says pay them off, which is good advice, but what if every credit card company did the same, you would never be allowed a credit card.  I have looked on Trustpilot and we are not alone.  Again I would recommend you do a post on there and complain.
  • Clause 14 is where you have not used your card in 12 months or your balance is nil - well it would be if you paid it off every month!

I posted the text of clause 14 in post seven of this thread. It's better to read what it actually says rather than reading posts that contain a small amount of truth but otherwise give a false impression.

What clause 14 of the agreement actually says:

14 Our right to end this Agreement
Without affecting our rights under clause 12, we may end this Agreement at any time: (a) by giving you at least two
month’s written notice; or (b) if you have not used the Account for a period of 12 months and there is a nil balance on the Account.
  • Thanks everyone who has chipped in to confirm I'm not alone.

Clause 14 can be found here: https://s3.creation.co.uk/public/documents/AR-New-Product-Card-Summary-Box.pdf

If they are exiting the card business altogether that's their prerogative but it wouldn't have killed them to say as much when they notified me. I'll bear this experience in mind when considering any BNP Paribas product in future.

You probably won't realise that they are behind the financing.

Same here. I signed up for the IHG credit card about six years ago for my work expenses, then they parted ways with IHG about a year ago.  I've always paid the balance in full, then of out the blue today I get a notification that they're serving me two months notice, as is their right under credit agreement clause 14.

I was in the same boat, had an IHG card and was transfered, they have just told me the account will be closed in 2 months, no explaination, it stinks, their loss, im afraid, glad to know I am not alone,
Thanks for the forum, has put my mind at rest, No idea where to go next.
  • As many others I received the "clause 14 cancellation" last night after many years with creation (joined in the IHG rewards days) and paying off the balance in full every month. I had a credit limit of £10,000 as I used the card for a lot of international business trips - so they gained on currency fees as well.
TBH I was getting fed up with creation. Even if I pre-warned them of my travel dates and location - the amount of times the card was "security blocked" when checking out of a hotel or paying for dinner was embarrassing and stressful!
    Suggested actions:
    1. Write a 1* review on TrustPilot
    2. Apply for a new credit card with another provider. Using MoneySupermarket - I applied for a Santander credit card with £7500 limit last night....the card is on its way
