I had the same email too at 5.30 pm. Convenient for them as they close their phone lines at this time. I spent the night worried that either I’d been scammed or that it was a scam email.( I checked out the latter)
I spoke to someone at creation this morning who told me what others have been told. I suggested that the email sent to customers should be re- worded to make it clearer what they were doing and why.
    Very disappointed but their loss!
  • I too, like many others, had an Asda card which went on to a Creation card. I clear my balance each month. To be told, without any explanation, my card is to be cancelled is somewhat annoying.
  • Thanks everyone who has chipped in to confirm I'm not alone.

Clause 14 can be found here: https://s3.creation.co.uk/public/documents/AR-New-Product-Card-Summary-Box.pdf

If they are exiting the card business altogether that's their prerogative but it wouldn't have killed them to say as much when they notified me. I'll bear this experience in mind when considering any BNP Paribas product in future.
I am not sure what the surprise is or even the doubts: Creation has been clearly “exiting” the Credit Card business in the UK since the completely closed to new customers signing up to new cards years ago (was it at least 2/3 years or even more?). That is obviously not a viable business model. They have also exited (not “lost” as another poster said, but purposely initiate the ending of the agreements) all affiliate cards they had with Asda, IHG, and a couple of others. They were also forced to honour rewards payments (points, night certificate and/or the possibility to get a few refunds once they were no longer able to earn a night certificate) to the IHG customers that they were initially trying to brush off.

    It's really not

Since I've had my card for a very long time, and had no reason to get another, I wasn't aware they had stopped new business.

Their email stated that they are doing this "as a responsible lender", not because they are shutting up shop. The implication that my use of credit was in some way irresponsible was very surprising, not to mention unsettling and unwelcome.

If they had had the honesty to say "We're exiting the card business altogether and therefore closing your account in accordance with our T&C's" I would have accepted that and not felt the need to post here.  It doesn't strike me as information that they gained an advantage by withholding.

A forum search on previous discussion here or simply searching online about creation closing cards, could have taken you to several discussion on here or similar forum or oven on forums within travel sites like Heads For Points, where there was a large discussion on how to force Creation to honour the rewards associated to the IHG card when that was closed,  and information about how long since creation cards closed for new applications. They have not officially announced the exit form the UK Credit Card market and therefore would not have wanted to include this statement in those emails, but every piece of evidence for the last 2/3/4 years has clearly pointed to this outcome. I would agree that this approach can be highly criticised as the decision of not considering selling their customer loan book to another operator like it was done by other players exiting the UK credit Market in the Past (MBNA to Lloyds, Morgan Stanley to Barclaycard, or the most recent, Tesco to Barclaycard to mention few).
  • I too have been a Creation CC user for some time and had the same message. I have tried to apply for a new credit card and been rejected despite having a good credit score. I have just been through the process again at my bank today speaking with their representatives and have been declined again on affordability. I had a very large credit limit with Creation that I never used. I went on their website yesterday and reduced that amount by over a half. The bank representative suggested that this high credit limit may have affected the result but the reduction may take a month to be recognised by the credit reference agencies. I now have to wait another month before I can apply again. If this is your only credit card as in my case I strongly suggest you look at your options regarding credit card applications.

  • I emailed Creation through the "contact us" link via the App to query why my account was being closed on 31/1/25 and received this reply today:-

    Thank you for your email.

I’m sorry you’re unhappy with the closure of your account.  This is part of a wider business decision.  You can still use your Card and it’s benefits until the closure date. You may feel that this is a reflection on how you have managed your account, however as stated in the communication the accounts are being closed under section 14 of the Terms and Conditions of your Agreement which I have provided below.

In your credit agreement with Creation, clause 14 gives Creation the right to close your account.

You will be able to use your Card up until 31 January 2025, please continue to make your monthly payment in your usual way, there is no obligation for the balance to be cleared by 31 January 2025.

Once closed, please securely destroy your Credit Card as it’s no longer valid. If you have any regular payments set up with retailers, please contact them and provide an alternative payment method.  Any purchases made prior to the closure date but charged after your account is closed must be paid in the usual way.

    Kind regards

  • As many others I received the "clause 14 cancellation" last night after many years with creation (joined in the IHG rewards days) and paying off the balance in full every month. I had a credit limit of £10,000 as I used the card for a lot of international business trips - so they gained on currency fees as well.
TBH I was getting fed up with creation. Even if I pre-warned them of my travel dates and location - the amount of times the card was "security blocked" when checking out of a hotel or paying for dinner was embarrassing and stressful!
    Suggested actions:
    1. Write a 1* review on TrustPilot
    2. Apply for a new credit card with another provider. Using MoneySupermarket - I applied for a Santander credit card with £7500 limit last night....the card is on its way
After leaving a 1* review on TrustPilot - Creation contacted me there and asked for my details. Creation called me today and apologised for how they had communicated their "clause 14" - but the representative told me that Creation are exiting the credit card business! I expressed concern that this could lead to job losses - but they assured me that they would be deployed to other parts of the business but did say what.
