If they inform the credit reference agency that I chose to close my account, will this have a greater impact on my credit file?
It makes no difference.  All that's recorded on your credit file is the fact that the account was closed - no-one who looks at your report can tell whether it was you or the lender that chose to close it.

  • Yes, today. Told me they were moving away from credit card system.
    Been with them for years.

I have a feeling that not all accounts have been closed (mine has been).  In an answer to my question requesting more details as there had been no communication since the initial letter in December they said

I can confirm that your account is now closed.

Please see below this is the email that went out to all customers.

This is part of a wider business decision.  You can still use your Card and it’s benefits until the closure date. You may feel that this is a reflection on how you have managed your account, however as stated in the communication the accounts are being closed under section 14 of the Terms and Conditions of your Agreement which I have provided below.

I have also seen a version of the closuyre statement that implies an acount woyuld be converted to a Creation Mastercard upon expiry and that the card can continue to be used.  So I feel the "all customers" statement is possibly missleading.

I opened up a few Flex agreements with them in the last month or two just to keep the account open for as long as possible just for s*ts and giggles. Now I have just £5 left and next month I'll have to pay it and let it go.

Not a great card really, but when combined with IHG one of the best affinity cards around for someone like me who uses hotels regularly.

All good things come to an end though.

    Old topic, but same story...

Your Creation Credit Card is closing on 01 December 2025

    What’s happening?

We're closing the Creation Credit Card for all customers in line with the terms and conditions of the Credit Agreement (Clause 14) on 01 December 2025.

I wonder if they're starting a new round, or if I'm just a random 'victim'.

I'm a little sceptical about the reason, especially since they apparently made a similar comment to some people who had theirs closed back in January.

Make that a lot sceptical, since they still offer cards to 'partner retailers' such as Currys.

In fact, now I've searched the forum, it seems Creation have been using this same excuse since at least 2021. I wonder why they feel the need to lie.

If anyone else wants to play detective; my card was originally with Asda; It still pays cashback, albeit only 0.5%; I've always paid the balance off in full by direct debit. Coincidentally(?), last month I spent a lot more on the card than usual (almost £1500) Usually I don't get above about £300.

My theories for now are either:
I'm costing them too much / not making them enough.
or possibly it's connected to their 'partner program', and they're getting rid of customers who aren't with active programs (mine stopped being Asda years ago). Purely guesswork, but with a partner program, the partner may cover some of the costs. Since Asda left, Creation are left footing the bill.

Just for fun I've sent them an email asking why. After all, what's the point of me applying for a Currys card if it's going to be closed, probably affecting my credit score.
I'm also going to call them out on trustpilot, just to see what BS their AI comes up with.

  • Got the same message Yesterday. It does say "We're closing the Creation Credit Card for all customers" so maybe shutting up shop?

Currys flexpay is not a credit card, it's more of a BNPL/store card solution like the old Argos Card, you can only use it to buy things at Currys.
So Creation (may) be telling the truth this time that they are getting out of the credit card game once and for all.

My wife told me the that a message appeared on the Creation app that said they were effectively closing the credit card. This is rather annoying as we've built up a £15k limit (for emergencies, there's only a couple of grand on it right now.)

What my wife is worried about is that this credit card closing will affect her credit score. Creation mistakenly dropped her off some list a while back and the score dropped by 40 odd points. It's only when she phoned several times, trying to rectify their mistake, that something was reinstated and the credit score rose again.

So, I think the card expires in December, but we just keep paying off the debt until it's gone. Will this whole debacle lower her credit score again? Essentially, it's out of our control.

Relying on a credit card (at £15K…) for “emergencies” is a disaster from the off. You really should have, or start building a cash reserve.

As for the score issue. Well, it’s a non-issue. The score is entirely made up and not relevant to how credit worthy banks/lenders see you.
