Picking up my merc 4x4 tomorrow, thanks to all those who gave me constructive advice, eg jeannieblue, bunking_off, nickmack, balsingh and all the rest of you (even ifI didnt agree with it!)

To the ones who slagged me off for no reason, eg bertandernie, jammin, etc. all I have to say is...

    Losers.
  • whoo are you sure, I worked for merc a while ago, their electricals are terrible at the moment, and often the problems are ongoing, and the cars are in and out of the dealership all the time with the same faults.

Just happened to chance on this thread, and its not surprising the amount of vitriol that Bartsimpson has generated, and all out of asking a simple query on a car, although its an extremely pricey one.

The query by itself is perfectly reasonable, its only that the venue perhaps may not have been!, ie this forum where the original poster was felt to be a showoff.

Anyway what is not surprising is the number of hostile reactions it has generated, and its perfectly obvious that most of them are driven by envy/jealousy more than anything else.

Whether the guy is genuine or not, i think a post about blowing £40k is quite tactless on site where lots of people are in debt and probably struggling more than normal after Christmas

Again theres two types of debt
One is where an individual has overspent using various cards and has gone overboard with excess spending relative to means.

I dont believe anyone should feel sorry for someone like this, its the individuals own fault and he/she would do good in realising the folly of what they have done and given the chance to make up their way after repaying whatever has been owed.

On the other hand there are those who have worked hard and for no fault of theirs have been unable to work/unfortunate circumstances/hard luck have gotten into depth-The second category one feels sorry for and requires all help and assistance.

Not me, I wouldn't buy such a gas-guzzling, pointless vehicle if I won the lottery tonight. I'm just irritated by the idiot's posts - and not just on this thread.

You're right about his lack of sense though. Who comes on a money saving forum asking how best to blow £40k?

Face it, it's either a wind up or the OP's incredibly lacking in common sense.

Well done Bart. I'm glad to hear that you have finally decided how to blow £40K on a car. Its been a long had journey, but with the help of MSE's finest you have triumphed against indecision. I'm amazed at how you have managed to juggle such a difficult set of requirements with a very challenging budget, and yet still come up with such an elegant solution.

I cant say I agree with your final choice (I would have gone for an S4), but I'm sure glad its all over - The sheer emotion of your struggle was beginning to get to me.

I do hope you've managed to negotiate a good discount and will be sharing your tips on http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=826261

PS I assume you haven't actually blown the full £40K on the m-class - will you be posting I wanna blow £10K on a diamond watch? That'll be a toughie cos I guess its got to have diamonds, and err tell the time?
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

right, I'm off to go and blow twenty notes on a takeaway while I wait for the flames to come in. Any suggestions (other than sour grapes - you can do better than that!)?
