    No, you're correct - thats's pretty much exactly it as I understand it.

    Once switch payment has been made is there any reason not to cancel the dummy direct debits I have set up?

    Just cancelled all mine, and downgraded to an everyday account to avoid the £3 monthly fee.

    They check it "60 days after the switch has been instructed". Although you make the instruction on the 1st December, your instruction is to start the switch on 1st January. So in other words, I'm not sure! What matters is how Santander interprets it.

    If you deposit your £1,500 in December then you're depositing it before your switch has started (1st January) so I don't really see how that would count for the offer.

    I've been trying to switch for a few days and each time I try, it says "Something went wrong. We‘re having some technical issues. Please come back and resume your application later."

    Has this happened to anyone else?
