I haven't read the full terms and conditions but from the website, it seems you can switch to an existing account, that already has 2 direct debits and already gets £1500+ per month and still meet the offer. Is this true or this not allowed as mentioned in more detail in the terms and conditions
  • Their switch form seems to be having issues.

I cannot get it to work on Safari on iPad, iPhone, or Mac. It seems that it fails to validate the switch date and won’t let you hit continue as a result.

On Chrome on macOS, I managed to get to the next page, but the next page was just a technical issues error page. I’ll try again tomorrow, I guess.

Maybe the site is feeling the pressure of high demand, after this offer was included in today's MSE email.

I can't see anything that prohibits this.

Their site says: Already have an eligible Santander account? Don’t worry you can still qualify for the incentive. We can switch a current account you hold at another bank to your existing Santander current account.

So not sure why you think it might not be allowed?

For an update on this: I think the form is just flat-out broken on Safari. There seems to be a genuine validation error with the date input fields on that browser on all OSes.

I did get it to work later last night (actually, technically this morning) on Chrome though.

That does 100% seem to be the rule. The full T&Cs don’t really outline anything significant beyond the summary on the site. From the wording of the full T&Cs, though, they make it sound like they ONLY care about the state of your account on the 60th day after the switch is completed. So if your switched-in account had no DDs or money in it, and then 50 days later in you set up two DDs and paid in £1500, you’d still qualify.

(I’d recommend being a little more proactive than that, personally, but it is technically possible.)

It seems they’ve set it up as more of a loyalty bonus than a switching bonus in that regard.
  • We have a joint acc with halifax. Can we switch this? Anyone had success ?

  • Hi, have tried to switch online to an existing account but keep getting "technical error" message.  Tried several times. Is anyone else experiencing same difficulty? I think there may be an issue with their website. Just keeps saying "we're experiencing technical difficulties, try again later".
  • Decided to switch and did the form online. Once you submitted the switch, are you meant to get any emails or texts about it?

You are allowed to switch joint accounts into other joint accounts - ie. you need to open a joint Santander account before you can switch your joint Halifax account. To maximise the incentive though, you're better off each opening a sole account and doing a sole switch to each get an incentive (ie. 2x £150).

But otherwise if you only care about the joint switch, there's no reason why you can't. You should have no issuesgetting the incentive for the joint switch if you meet all the other terms of the offer.
