Right Dave, i've been in me cupboard to get the recipe i always use to make pizza dough......first off, have you got a breadmaker? if not, then why not? :rotfl:EVERYBODY needs a BM!!!
but if you haven't, i'm sure this can be made by hand.....
right, you need
140ml.....5/8 cup tepid water
15ml....1tbsp olive oil
225g......2cups bread flour ( or you can use plain ,it doesn't matter for pizza)
5ml...1tsp salt
2.5ml...1/2tsp sugar
2.5ml...1/2tsp dried yeast
the BM instructions tell you to put the oil and water in first, then the sugar and salt, then the flour, and lastly the yeast. so i guess if you're doing it by hand, put the flour in a bowl with the sugar and salt and yeast, then add the oil and water (i think it would be in that order, but i use my BM)
let the BM do its work, or you mix it all together, kneading it for a good 10mins
take the dough out of the BM, or out of the bowl, and roll/shape it into a flat round, about 10/12" across
for the topping.....
you need to mash up a tin of tomatoes( thats a technical term...mash...)
add some tomato puree and some italian seasoning or oregano
spread over base of pizza after you've put it on a tray
sprinkle some grated cheese over, and you can add some chopped up ham, or mushrooms, or onion rings, or whatever.
just don't overload it or it won't cook properly
bake at 200 gas 6 for about 15/20 mins
hope this works for you.....we have this quite a lot, as its a lot easier than it sounds when written down!!0 -

Thanks so much for typing all that out. It is really appreciated I have not got a breadmaker, so will be doing it by hand.
I'm thinking about planning ahead for my birthday celebrations next weekend. Can I make the bases in advance and then freeze them? If so, would I defrost them first, or use them from frozen?0 -
oh you need to get a BM!! it'll make things so much easier for you, cos then you can make buns and bread and stuff
about the bases.....roll out the base, and PARTLY cook it, maybe for 10mins so its not soft anymore, then you can freeze it. you don't need to defrost it before putting the toppings on, you can just bung it straight in the oven
are you making yourself a birthday cake as well? hope you have a brill b'day week end0 -

I have a slow cooker I could use...
I was considering making homemade pizzas and letting guests choose their own toppings but have no idea how to make the dough?
How about cooking up a batch of cocktal sausages? they always go down well.. You could use the Slow Cooker for mulled wine, or how about a cheese fondue in there? I have a SC recipe for that somewhere, let me know if you want me to post?
Sausage rolls spring to mind- there's a fab flakey pastry recipe over on DD&D's thread - these can be frozen ahead too.0 -
Simple finger food.
Boil eggs till hard. Cut each in 2 - scoop out yolk - mash with salad cream & curry powder pile back into whites - vola curried eggs.
I buy barbecue sticks then hubby cuts in half. On these I thread a small rolled slice of ham each side of that a cube of cheese then each side of that a grape.0 -
How about some crudites and dips? Go for an interesting variety of veggies - carrot sticks, cucumber, red peppers, broccoli florets, mangetout etc. You can make a really nice simple tomato salsa, or whiz up a can of chickpeas with some olive oil, tahini (if you've got it, or you could use a tsp of sesame oil), squeeze of lemon juice and 1 clove of garlic. Or crumble some blue cheese or boursin into some yogurt with 1 tbsp mayo.2015 comp wins - £370.25

Morning
We've invited some friends round for a BBQ on Saturday but we don't have much money so I can't afford to buy 'posh' chicken portions etc to put on the BBQ.
So I'm going to buy a big pack of Chicken portions from Iceland or Asda and marinate them myself but I've never done such crazy things in my life! So, does anyone have any nice and yummy ways to marinate chicken?
Step by step guides may be essential ... I'm no chef!

2tbsp wholegrain mustard, 2tbsp honey, 1tbsp dark soy sauce & 1/2 tsp tabasco will coat about 6/7 drumsticks.
Easy Peasy!0 -
Iceland or Farmfoods are very cheap for chicken breasts frozen; even better if you have a "Jack Fulton" or "Heron Frozen Foods" near you their prices are even lower - certainly since moving to Scotland I miss these two particular stores. Just don't forget to defrost the chicken prior to cooking it!
A nice marinade is coriander and lemon; it goes lovely with the smokey barbeque flavour. Just get some Lemon Juice and (preferably fresh) coriander and mix it with some olive oil. Leave the chicken to soak in this overnight in the fridge and the flavours will permeate the chicken and will really come into their own once cooked.
Have a great BBQ!
