Money Moral Dilemma: Should I ask my friend to pay for charging his electric vehicle at our house?

Sure, tell him the amount shown on your meter. If you went to a garage, he wouldn't expect you to pay for fuel.0

Are you sure this person is a friend?0

the OP is dated 8th October. this must be 8th October 2023 or MSE are just duplicating old stuff as i remember reading this months ago.
p.s confirms the obvious that the ridiculous MMD's are made up.1 -
I really wish there was a way to ignore threads.0

Would they expect you to pay for filling their tank if it was a petrol/diesel vehicle?0

If you didn’t accept his offer to pay at the time it’s probably too late. If he visits again and asks to charge his EV make sure you accept if he offers to pay, and ask him to pay if he doesn’t offer!0

As he's a friend, I would let him off for this one time. However, if he asks again just tell him that you don't have a special tariff for EV charging so it will cost you a lot for the electric and see what he offers. If he doesn't offer, he's no friend, after all, if his vehicle was a petrol one you wouldn't pay for his fuel, would you?

Aren't EVs supposed to be cheap to run?
How come charging his EV overnight used more electricity than you would in a week for the whole house.
Or is it EVs are really just a big scam by government and big business?0 -

Well how rude? Are you sure he's a friend? He must know that it has to be paid for because that's what he usually does - pay for the electricity he has used. I think he's taken you for a mug - and of course, you can't really ask now but if he should try it again, you must insist that he pays.0
