My house has an electric vehicle (EV) charger, but I don't have an EV. A friend came to visit and asked if he could charge his EV as it hadn't charged properly overnight, and I was glad to help. When he left he didn't offer to pay for the electricity he'd used, and I was too embarrassed to ask. Our meter showed he'd used more than we normally do in a week, and he is a lot wealthier than us, so should I ask him to reimburse me?

Money Moral Dilemma: Should I ask my friend to pay for charging his electric vehicle at our house?

There are services for people doing this where you pay the home-owner for the electricity they use. I would definitely ask for money next time, or advise him to go and look on Co-charger and Plug Share where people actually offer this service for those who need it at the cost of the electricity.0

Don’t be too embarrassed to ask, he used your electricity and should pay. He may be happy to pay but is waiting for you to request an amount.0

Your friend must have stayed overnight as home chargers at 7kw will take over 12 hrs to charge any car even so it would not have been too expensive and definitely not a weeks worth of electric unless you live by candle light. It will have cost you a fiver at the most. If he used a three pin socket it may cost slightly more but you’re talking a whole weekend to charge up and still not to be fully charged. You have not calculated correctly. It would have cost £50/80 or more to fuel with petrol/diesel and I doubt you would pay for that. Dint let him charge again or ask him to work out coatings for you.0
