My house has an electric vehicle (EV) charger, but I don't have an EV. A friend came to visit and asked if he could charge his EV as it hadn't charged properly overnight, and I was glad to help. When he left he didn't offer to pay for the electricity he'd used, and I was too embarrassed to ask. Our meter showed he'd used more than we normally do in a week, and he is a lot wealthier than us, so should I ask him to reimburse me?

Money Moral Dilemma: Should I ask my friend to pay for charging his electric vehicle at our house?

Unfortunately another case of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted. It would have been nice of your friend to have offered but, if you were concerned, perhaps you should have asked for payment when he asked you. We should probably all learn this lesson. And yes, we have had a similar question before.0

LSBD60 said:Your friend must have stayed overnight as home chargers at 7kw will take over 12 hrs to charge any carNope, my italics. Many cars have smaller batteries, including mine, and most of us don't get down to extremely low levels. It will have cost you a fiver at the most.Nope. Not at SVR, possibly more and possibly less dependent on time of day and tariff. If he used a three pin socket it may cost slightly moreYes, marginally due to the inherent inefficiencies of charging at that rate. But perhaps (the fictitious?) OP has solar? As a first contribution this looks awfully like a bot..0

I call that taking advantage, strange friend!! However I think you will have to let it go this time as it is a bit late now to ask, but if he or anyone else wants to charge their vehicle on your electric you need to tell them before they start that you will have to be reimbursed there and then.0

Well simple really. If you forget to get fossil fuel would you pay to fill up ? No different0

Absolutely your friend should pay for electricity used!
That would be the morally correct thing to do0 -
Yes they should have paid.0
