Weekly Flylady Thread 31st December 2007

Options
Welcome to the weekly flylady thread. Of course what will be the first thread of 2008 :D and the last of 2007 :D

If you need help organising your week when it comes to housework, or just the motivation to do the dreaded housework tasks you have to do, come and join us, hopefully make it a little easier. You never know, you might start to enjoy it!

Following requests to start things steadier for new members who did not realise the tasks list wasn’t a must do, just an encouragement, we now have levels. There will now be level 1, 2 and 3. Level 1 being very basic it has been requested that this is just one task per day, level 2 in the middle, up to 3 which is more advanced and time consuming. If you want to do level 2 you add the tasks on level 1 with the level 2 tasks, if you want to do level 3 you add the tasks on, easy peasy. Choose a level to aim for but be realistic, if you’ve got a busy day on or are just starting etc aim for level one, if you get higher then great, if not then not to worry its only suggestions. Every room comes back around next week. Trust me some days I'll only be doing level one myself.

THESE LISTS ARE ONLY SUGGESTIONS AND NOT A MUST DO LIST, ALWAYS WELCOME TO POST AND FOLLOW YOUR OWN.

Also adding a extra mission each day. Another one where it’s up to you if you want to do it or if you need to. Fling boogies, hotspot clearing, cupboard sorts, drawer sorts etc will all be on this list. Any problems with this of any suggestions do please let me know.

A few of the basics before we start the week:

Quote:
Hotspots are any areas which if one thing gets put there loads of other things follow!

Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc

Nighttime routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.

27 Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a binbag and whizz around the house finding 27 items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.

Swish and swipe means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis

Manic Monday - Kitchen and Dining Room
Level One
Clear and wipe kitchen surfaces
Level Two
Clean floors
Clean cupboard door fronts and the front of appliances
Sort fridge bringing what needs using soon to the front
Wipe dining table (clean table cloth if necessary)
Level Three
Dust any extra furniture in dining room, checking for cobwebs on way round
Wipe window sills, clean any marks off windows if required
Wash the washer drawer out if it's gunky
Extra Mission:
Choose one or more of:
  • Clean inside of fridge
  • Sort through cleaning cupboard, bin empties and move what needs using first to the front
  • Clean OVEN yes I know you all hate that one wonder how many choose it
  • Sort any one kitchen/dining room storage area, drawer, cupboard or a shelf
  • Check the freezer, maybe work what is in there into your meals for the week so you can spend less on groceries
Tuesday Living Room, Hall and Stairs

Level 1
Vacuum floors and sofas
Level 2
Dusting, even if around everything
Remove clutter making sure stairs especially are safe
Clean TV, other electricals and cabinets
Level 3
Wipe light switches and banister
Clean any other glass like mirrors etc
Tidy shoes, coats and bags
Vacuum under furniture (only if you won't hurt yourself doing it, don't want any injuries)
Extra Mission:
Pick one or more of the following tasks –
  • Clear one hotspot, or just spend at least 5 minutes tackling it
  • Card list - suggested by serena - make a list of who you have received cards from, their addresses and put it somewhere safe! (Mine will be in the decorations bag, someone remind me next year please :o I'll forget)
  • Clear one shelf, dust and replace items after giving them a wipe over
  • Clean a window, only need to do one but if you manage more then :D well done
  • Using the idea Shirley suggested, get yourself a bag or box, go around collecting things that are not in the place they should be, then put them back where they should be. You could delegate and give everyone their own misplaced things to deal with :D
Wednesday, Master Bedroom & Landing

Level 1
Remove bed linen and wash, replace with fresh linen
Clean windows and wipe window sills
Level 2
Check fire alarms are working
Vacuum floor in bedroom and on landing
Level 3
Dust surfaces & make sure no cobwebs
Vacuum mattress before replacing with fresh linen
Extra tasks list, as usual choose one or more
  • 27 fling boogie time, time for that midweek fling, go on grab a bag and clear that clutter
  • Wipe light switches and dust light shades/lights in bedroom and on landing
  • Sort one drawer, making sure only what should be in there is, anything that's had it's day or doesn't belong there is removed
  • Wipe door handles and doors upstairs
  • Find a home for something that doesn't have one, maybe a present you or a child received that isn't put 'away' yet because it doesn't have a place
Thursday Bathroom and Study/Pc Area

Level One
Clean floors in these rooms (even if it is around the clutter)
Level Two
Clean baths, toilets and sinks
Clear any clutter from desk
Dust PC and desk, wet cloth may be needed for cup rings
Wipe keyboard, house phone, sockets, switches and mouse etc
Level Three
Clear clutter from floor
Wipe down tiles in bathroom
Defragment the pc

Clean shower screen/curtain if you have one/if required
Extra mission:
Pick whichever you want to attempt:
  • Wipe the skirtings, door and window frames in these rooms
  • Clean vacuum cleaner out, brushes, filters, whatever else needs doing (make sure it's dry before using it again!)
  • Wash your bathroom mats, nets, clean blind/curtains etc
  • Sort a wardrobe or part of, a drawer or set of drawers making sure it has what needs to be in it and any 'extras' are put where they should be
  • Give the pc desk a good clean! Pull out the case, printer, scanner and all those coffee mugs!
Finally Friday - those terrible kids rooms and spare rooms
Level One
Vacuum Floor (even if it's just where you can see)
Level Two
Strip beds, vacuum mattress and replace with fresh linen
Level Three
Dusting and cobweb checking
Put anything back in it's place that isn't where it should be
Extra Mission Task Choices
  • Time for the Friday Flylady Fling, aim for 27, if you can't find that many, well done, you are obviously making a difference
  • Sort through some toys/books/clothes even if it's just for 10 miutes, making sure any broken ones are dealt with/flung, dirty ones get wiped/washed before putting them back and anything that should be parted with is.
  • Clean kids rooms windows (check the curtains etc while you are there to make sure they don't need cleaning/wiping)
  • Wipe any sticky marks off doors and walls in the kids rooms, may aswell wipe the lightswitches and handles over too
  • Spend 10 minutes sorting paperwork, filing or flinging
Apart from the dailies and night time routines that's the lot for the week, of course if you still want to join us over the weekend you are more than welcome. I will restart the weekend lists next week. Back in gradually :D

FRIDAY EXTRA - Don't forget your ME time this weekend, even if it's just a nice relaxing bath or catching up with an old friend, go on you deserve it!!
One day I might be more organised...........

Sometimes it seems that the going is just too rough.
And things go wrong no matter what I do.
Now and then it seems that life is just too much.
But you've got the love I need to see me through.

I'm in again. Dont really mind it being the kitchen as with all the cooking thats been going on over the last week or so in there its all pretty much up to date in the cleaning department. Cooker could do with a swish out so will do that.

In-laws left, littles in bed and DH playing on the guitar legends game I got him for his birthday - he is addicted and will need professional help by the time he is due to return to work on Wednesday:rotfl: .

Off to do monthly meat shop tomorrow as want to crack on with the batch cooking to fill my new freezer, so far it has one chicken breast in it:rotfl: .

Right I am off for a mooch around as looks like DH has taken over the telly for the night with his new game:rolleyes: .

Sorry nice as it is to see a new thread I won't be in this week, going across the water to friends in edinburgh for hogmany then round to neighbours for tea on new years day before we head to centre parcs on the 2nd so count me out for this week hence why I have been running round mad all day cleaning, washing and ironing.

I would like to take this chance then to wish all a very happy new year, best wishes for 2008 and a big thank you to lil-me & pigpen for keeping the thread going and to everyone else for the inspiration to post, chat, moan and laugh with each other during the year.

I will be back next week but until then all the best.

I'm in. I really want to get all 3 kids rooms tidied cleaned, decluttered and a list of clothes/school stuff I need to buy done as 2 have grown beyond belief.

Kitchen may therefore be done at a basic level this week.

? who is keeping their decs up until twelwth night (Sat 5th) and who can't stand the clutter and wants their house back?

I always thought 12th night was the 6th but as we take them down early anyway all the things that are supposed to happen to you won't happen! We're taking them down on Thursday and Friday and I have to say i'm happy about it though I will miss the tree.

I'm in for this week's challenge though i'll only do level 1 probably. Need to make a steak pie and trifle for the new year party we're going to tomorrow night. We're at my mum and dad's on new year's day and I have my friend's hubbies funeral on the 2nd so i'll just do what I can.

Is anyone doing anything tomorrow night? I'm lucky as it's my friends turn to host and she only lives three doors away - just need to stop sneezing xx
