The withdrawing of funds issue seems to be more of an issue for sellers who perhaps joined ebay in the last 10 years or so. Those oldies like me that have been selling since the late 1990s are used to it as that's how it was when we started. Even when I used Amazon my funds were held for a certain period.

When paypal was brought it, and it was later than ebay UK being launched, your funds went into Paypal and you were charged if you withdraw anything less than £50, so smaller sellers had to leave their money there or use it to spend on other things. Then that was changed to free withdrawals a few years later - and then of course more recently managed payments were bought in with immediate withdrawals for any amount.

Basically it all just goes round and round.

Yes I remember eBay being like this, and I actually prefer it. I can use my selling cost to purchase my label, or any other items I was looking to buy from eBay without having to use my bank/card at all.
Or keep saving the amount up and withdraw in one lump sum.
It easy enough to withdraw the money to your account whenever you wish to do so.
I see this as a positive move.
I mentioned somewhere that for my private sales I prefer the rolling balance as it means I can use funds to pay for labels but know that everything showing in my balance is entirely mine to withdraw or spend. At the moment I use PayPal or a bank account for my labels so have to remember to account for them in my bank balance - this way only payments will be going into my bank now without all the PayPal label costs showing separately.

Exactly what I do - that way the money going into my account is 'my money' with no further expenses.

I was forced into a business account several years ago even though I am not a business. Hence I created a new private account and stopped using that 'business' account. I still have access to it, but never use it as I only sell private stuff.
  • I must say, it's nice being able to list whenever you want and not have to save a draft and wait for a cheap listing weekend! lol

Exactly!  That is what I am loving about this offer.  No waiting and forgetting!   Just listing as and when I across stuff to sell.

I've received an email about the eBay Balance and payout changes, confirming that funds will be held in the account.  However it also says if the funds are unused or not manually withdrawn, they will automatically payout to your bank account on the first Tuesday of every January, April, July and October.

Shame really, I would have preferred to keep the funds in eBay indefinitely until I choose to pay them out, or spend them.

I can see the attraction of having eBay spending money but personally I don’t like any site having my money for too long. I think 3 months is a good compromise generally, but I’ll probably pull mine out much quicker either when it builds up, or if I want to get something for myself elsewhere.

I think they have had to send out reminders as so many people have got very confused about the changes. Reading other sites it looks like people are posting moaning about it, without even having read the original announcements. There’s even a whole group of people who believe that eBay aren’t allowing withdrawals at all and will just hold the money until you spend it on eBay, and there was even briefly a petition (soon laughed off the site) to sue eBay for holding their money hostage.

It would be a lot simpler if people actually read the announcements .

  • So mid October when they halted the usual fortnightly FVF offer I didn't list anything, and then when they announced then new "free listings idea" around the end of the month, I don't remember the exact date but I renewed all my listings on multiple accounts on the 1st Nov.
this morning I saw they were about to renew on one account, there was only 5-6 hours remaining, and I ended all listings and relisted just as I have done fortnightly for the past 2-3 years to get the discounted FVF offer
just looked at the other account this evening and I see all 50 of my listings have been automatically renewed but none of the promotional listings have been taken, it still says 300 available, none used? so I instinctively ended all listings and relisted, it's now showing 50 used, 250 remaining
Do I need to keep doing this monthly to get the offer, or can I actually list 300 new items per month, and then have them relist every month and still be "fee free"? not that I am going to use all those listings, but I just want to be sure I'm not going back the the extortionate 10% fees they had

As previously stated - existing listings remain free, so you can allow them to auto renew and list a further 300 each month.

I'm a private seller, just getting rid of unwanted personal items.
Not having to pay fees on footwear and jewellery is good news for me.
I was considering moving to Vinted because of eBay seller fees.

    This isn't good news though:
Ebay said it had introduced other changes to its site, including AI-generated descriptions and photo-enhancing tools.
I really don't want to read flowery, verbose rambling that gives me no idea of the condition of an item I might be interested in.
    Like this:
These stunning women's shoes are a must-have for any fashion-forward individual.
Lightweight, woman's luxury leather sneaker . Handcrafted in a shimmery Italian leather and black leather trim combination.
What a load of useless tosh!

That made me smile.  After losing 6 stone (yay  :)) I’ve replaced most of my wardrobe from eBay.  As you say many of the descriptions are a bit flowery.  I’ve found the best descriptions, and often the best clothes, are from people selling M & S clothes. :)

Did anyone really expect the free listings to continue indefinitely I wonder? WE had 3 months, which is better than nothing.

The new fees for buyers - and this only applies if they buy from a private seller of course, is being discussed at length here:

eBay "Buyer Protection Fees" (New charges for buyers from private sellers) - Details just recieved - Page 11 — MoneySavingExpert Forum

The funds being held s being discussed here

Ebay holding private sellers funds until proof of delivery from 4th Feb, 2025 - Page 7 — MoneySavingExpert Forum

    and simple delivery here

Simple Delivery?? - Page 2 — MoneySavingExpert Forum

A lot of changes to get used to over the coming weeks and months.
