Tomato Energy (Electric Only Supplier) - Too Good To Be True ?

I don't know how TE go about it. If they supply electricity at specific rates during specific half hours, then the sum of the half-hourly figures should match the difference in readings exactly. I can't see any reason why half-hourly usage data stored in the meter shouldn't be identical at the retrievers' end, so MyWatts and Bright should show the same. It's unlikely that the contents of any particular bucket will vary depending on who retrieves it, so a MyWatts/Bright discrepancy can probably only be attributed to missing buckets at one or the other. It's a simple matter just to count the number of non-null buckets received for the day; if it's less than 48, try again.
This is all a bit convoluted, and it could well be that my thinking is less clear than it needs to be. IOW, E&OE.I'm not being lazy ...
I'm just in energy-saving mode.2 -
bazray said:I joined Tomato December 21st 2024, the setup of Mywatts seems to look okay and I have setup Bright as a double check, oddly the total monthly usage is slightly different on Mywatts its 197.164 kwh and on Bright its 199.112. It's not a huge variation but I can't understand why they would be different if the data is pulled from the same source, or is it just rounding errors or something?
Also I have been with them for 7 weeks now and I haven't had my first bill, is that common?
On the plus side by shifting washing and dishwasher etc... to cheap 5p rate I'm averaging around 15p a unit if they bill me correctly lol.
Thanks in advance
I joined on December 14th and I have also not had a bill yet.2 -

Yesterday was day one, so early days, but still showing 'your data will be showing soon'.
myWatts 'more' unreliable?! yikes!
Hopefully it will work for you as it has for me.1 -

Well my switch over day is supposedly the 10th of this month (monday) When you guys have switched over, did you get a message asking for a meter reading? I saw on the original contract documentation that I needed to take a meter reading the day before switch and submit it, but never got a reminder after this. I've done it anyway. (despite having a smets2 meter)
Strangely, I haven't heard anything from octopus about "leaving them" so i'm feeling a little wary that the switch is actually going to happen, as I only requested it earlier in the week and it just feels short notice!
Lets see what happens!0 -

2. I did get a message “sorry you’re leaving” when I initiated the switch.3. I also got an invite straight away to set up a MyWatts account, password and log in details.
I did my switch by phone. Some who switched online seem to have had similar problems. Check your online Octopus account tomorrow it should give you a clue if there’s anything wrong.0 -
My meter reading request came halfway through my first day of supply. Like others, Octopus sent me the sorry your leaving email on the day I initiated the switch.0

The first i knew i'd actually switched was on the day around midday when mywatts started showing my consumption which was quite satisfying as i'd set my batteries to charge overnight for the 5hr 5p period not knowing whether i'd be paying tomato or octopus.
Am i happy i switched? Too right, by my own calcs i've already saved £7-£8 on 3 overnight charges, means i can be a little less tight with the heating2 kWp SEbE , 2kWp SSW & 2.5kWp NWbW.....in sunny North Derbyshire17.7kWh Givenergy battery added(for the power hungry kids)1
