I move over from octopus to Tomato tomorrow. When shall I take a meter reading? This evening?masonic said:The first couple of half hours data have come through to MyWatts, and I got the 'Welcome to Tomato Energy' message on my IHD this morning, so it looks like my switch is complete. Meanwhile, Octopus took a smart read yesterday while they still had access and updated my balance, so I should have a bill on the way from them.Took a photo of my meter reading first thing this morning just in case it is needed.0

For an accurate change of supply reading, you want the reading to be as close to what it will be at midnight as possible. For me, that meant first thing in the morning as my usage overnight was minimal. (I fired everything up to make use of that last cheap half hour once I had the reading in handbigup7 said:

            Good afternoon, experts!
I'm considering moving to TE trying to cut down the bills (in winter we spend c.1100kWt pm since we only have electrical heating. I have SMETS2 meter however I discovered that my current supplier, Octopus does not have any reading of my hourly consumption. I tried to connect to Bright but they also can't see it, commenting that my meter (I quote) "is not registered as commissioned at DCC".
Octopus support does not seem to be very responsive to address this situation. My random guess would be that because meter is located in communal area with poor 3g signal the meter might be unable to supply the hourly reads. What would be the best way to check it? TE flat tariff does not seem to be much cheaper vs Octopus so I thought of benefitting from their TOU rates0

If you can get access to a phone with O2 or one of the O2/Telfonica based virtual networks, you could check the signal strength next to the hub (usually the top of the electricity meter).Pilgrim13 said:

If you have reception it's worth pursuing it. I was in that situation with Outfox and it got fixed.1

You need to get Octopus to send an engineer to commission your meter. Until this is done it won't submit meter readings anywhere and effectively hasn't been installed properly.Pilgrim13 said:Good afternoon, experts!

Let the engineer worry about ensuring the signal is good enough - they can fit something to improve this.
If you are not getting a response from Octopus, try lodging a complaint1

Apologies, this is completely off-topic, but is there a way I can prevent being emailed everytime someone posts in this thread?
I know theres the setting in my profile page, but that will block any notification form any thread that Ive posted in. I dont want that, I just want to stop receiving notification for this thread as its no longer relevant to me (I did post in this thread, but my question was answered, and I dont need notifications for all subsequent responses).
 Thanks0

Email them to explain the issue and POLITELY ask for their help.Pilgrim13 said:Good afternoon, experts!

They don't usually deal direct with consumers so ask nicely1

Call Octopus and ask them to get it sorted - I wouldn't risk moving to TE in such case - they're too small to deal with this kind of problems so you'll end up in limbo..1
