JKenH said:I wonder how it worked out for Octopus. Real time prices either side of the 1-2pm slot were negative but between 1 and 2pm shot up to £85/MWh.
I think how this works is that Octopus work out how much they're going to need and buy it at the previous day's auction price for the period in question, and the real time price in this chart is what they have to pay if they underestimated demand and haven't bought enough. Perhaps someone who understands this better than I do could confirm this?

So, I used about 50% more electricity that day than normal; no idea what any saving will be.I even turned on the immersion heater to pre-warm the water ahead ot the time the gas boiler would, but my gas usage for the day shows the same.0

But, my wife had put the EV on to charge, and we got an Intelligent Octopus Go smart charge over the same hour period.
I presume their reconciliation will know to credit at 7p and not a the SVT rate.Lancashire

I'm not as keen on this scheme as evening saver sessions. If you can shift usage to 1-2pm that you'd be using that day anyway then fine, but using more energy just for the sake of it isn't a good thing, and if you end up using more but still less than the unknown 'usual' amount then it'll end up costing more too. Rewards for using less energy on the other hand are good, and it seems easier to shift normal evening usage away by an hour or so.0
