Hello tutles.
@mothernerd, I'm reading a book just now called Slow Seasons, which is about living slower and more in tune with the seasons. I definitely want to embrace that more. I find it brings back some of that childhood magic, makes time slow down and me more grateful. I already started listening to music more again rather than watching screens (remember when you were teenagers and that's all you did?). Once I'm debt free and want to get a record player again rather than skipping through Sp0tif7. It's funny how we want to be adults and grow up and once we're there we'd like to reverse time again...wish I had endless hours sitting in the cellar of our tenement tinkering on my bike, reading all weekend etc.
Gratitude;
* half way through the month financially
* kids enjoying being back at school (for now)
* the smell of damp soil

Tips for Slow Living Part 3
BE REAL
Rather than squeezing in time for exercise, exercise by travelling, gardening and doing housework
VALUE THE EVERYDAY AT HOME
Make time to clean, cook simple healthy recipes you know, be in the moment and enjoy what you're doing
LOW INFO
Don't always be ON Switch off your phone/ notifications. Leave the phone at home. Go on a phone and wifi retreat each year
Cut down on INCOMING Go on a low information diet. Avoid cable news. Cut out addictive apps. Only use one messaging app. Unsubscribe from a couple of email lists every day.
CELEBRATE SEASONS
Be Seasonal Follow the seasons. Join the harvest. Sleep more in winter
Honour Past Rhythms Find time each week to connect with the past. Enjoy the calm of the old and familiar. Organise your calendar around simple traditions. Recognise times in the year when you take on too much and work out what you can leave out to give you more time.
Final Tip
Be more sceptical about progress A forever chase after the future leaves us rootless and lost. A simpler, slower lifestyle builds a stronger bridge to both the opportunities and the challenges of unknown times ahead

Good afternoon 🌞
Glorious day here. Had a productive morning and resisted spending any money on stuff I don't need.
The cogs are slowly turning towards getting me back to work. Hopefully it will all come to fruition next month.
Had confirmation of my Bank Switch so have £175 incoming 👏🏻 There's a good article on MSE all about switching.
Today I am grateful for:
1) A supportive work colleague
2) The stability and security I do have
3) Content creators on YT

Afternoon allMy only 'day off' this week - due to staff holidays, I had to work 3 days instead of 2, and on Friday we are heading further west for my son's wedding. Nice, but I am still pretty exhausted after looking after my brother throughout his illness and the aftermath. I am still not sleeping well. However, it will be a joyous occasion and I am sure I will enjoy it, though not looking forward to the traffic implications a long journey to a tourist destination in the middle of the holidays. I have lost track of NSDs, and there haven't been many due to huge bill payments going out this month alongside all the usual. But everything will be more or less back to normal next week, including work hours and spendingI have freezer tetris to do shortly, as we had some meat delivered from an online butcher. I also need to feed the beans and tomatoes. Grateful for a neighbour's offer to water where needed while we are away. Not needed today as we have had quite a lot of rain here.10

Evening turtles
Productive day today I think. Cooked some lunches up first thing before work, and did some important life admin as well, including amending some student finance paperwork ready to send off tomorrow. Local corner shop wanted to charge £2.99 for a bog standard A5 envelope!!! Can you believe it... I said no thanks. The irony being the guy is minted, owns a flat in our building which he rents out by the room and makes a fortune out of. Will pinch an envelope from work instead.
Popped to the gym quickly after work and just cycled for a bit to see how it felt on my back. It's been painful again the past few days, am a bit gutted that the steroid injection may not have worked as I was hoping... but time will tell, still early days.
I finalised my leaving date with work, I can't take all my annual leave so they're going to pay me for 60 odd hours worth, should be quite a nice lump sum. Was looking at booking a little spa break for a couple of days, not 100% sure where yet.
@Thrifty_Taylor I'm reading a book at the moment about someone who went to complete a PhD on a Scottish island, it's really captured me! It's called Ponies at the Edge of the World.Save £2,400 tuition fees - £2,321.04 as of 08/24

A slow day for me. Went to the library to see the Bank Lady but realised, just before I was due to go in, that I hadn't got my handbag with my passport in and so she might not be able to help me. Leg and foot were already bothering me (I did stretching exercises whilst waiting) so I picked 3 more books and came home. Ate then came back upstairs. Lots to do but must rest my foot. May have had a small nap.
Ate again and then had a phone call from my niece - after 6 weeks. More nonsense - she thinks my paying half the latest valuation to my brother is fair. She said the Estate Agent (one of the ones who did a valuation from me did the latest one) said 'that it looked like a different house'. So an increase of £20,000 in value is all down to the work done by me. And then she dared question my taxi fare expenses. She also said 'all legal costs to be split between us' - well no, as vendor he is liable for the legal expenses. She told me to wind my neck in (I should be grateful they haven't queried my expenses?). She said I'd had it valued 'when it wasn't ready to be valued' - No I got valuations when I was told to do so. I ended the conversation by swearing (bad swear but not a very bad swear). Went to sit with DS3 until my blood pressure returned to normal.
Have had a text when they are available to discuss what is to happen to the house (she insists it's not going to auction) and 'discuss these expenses'. I'm calm now. However I do feel like taking a leaf out of my ex-m-i-l's book (not a phrase I thought I'd ever say). At her youngest son's wedding, she had a photo taken with her sitting on a chair wearing dark glasses (she was officially blind) with her 3 sons standing around her. I thought it looked very 'mafia' and my then husband said it was intentional.
Grateful for a (mostly) restful day, good books, the library, holding hands with DS3.My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage11 -

Great news @beanielou! @mothernerd your niece is just money grabbing, she'd worried that her future inheritance might be less than she's 'entitled' to & expecting something for nothing! Stand your ground, you've got a turtle army behind you!! @lcc86 that book sounds good, might have to look it out. I had a Shetland pony as a youngster, but I live on the group of islands south of there.
A scorcher of a day, which I wasn't expecting. Therefore I've burnt the top of my back. Met a friend for a 7.2 mile walk, haven't had a catch up since Easter, so loads to talk about! Dropped sewing off at work besties, then came home. Had s quick sandwich, then walked to the village. Unfortunately the trousers I'd sold yesterday didn't fit the ladies grandson when I got there, do had to bring them home again, & a dress I pinned a lady into at the hairdresser's (she owns the salon). Spent the evening sewing.
NSD#7
Grateful for chatting with friends, a beautiful day, walking over 10 miles & not collapsing 😂Use it up, wear it out
Make do or do without!
If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours 😃

Sorry to hear your neice and brother are causing issues @mothernerd
We are having issues with my SIL demanding things from FIL house. We inherited the house and contents and agreed to discuss any items she requested so some we said yes to but some no as very sentimental and worried would be sold for drugs. She referred to the house as a !!!!!! hole which is where my husband's parents lived for 30 years so as you can imagine that went down well. The good news was we reconnected with niece and nephew we haven't seen for years so we hope we continue to see them
So we getting quotes to make changes to house now we own it and will have to borrow money to do this while ours sells.....ironic that we own 2 houses and got to borrow money 🤣10
