you can also specify to have your parcel delivered to a local spar, coop shop etc when you order online and know you won't be in.

we don't want the UK  to end up like the USA where folk post you tube videos of their parcel being stolen from their porch.

like I said I live in a flat and they can't leave iany parcels on the pavement steps at entrance of flat.
they have to return it to sorting office, if I'm not in or it's past the door entrance timer buzzer for tradesmen., postmen.couriers

Royal Mail never leave parcels around here. I wish they would!

If im not in when a RM parcel is delivered, a card is put through the letterbox telling you to rearrange delivery or collect from the local sorting office (which isn’t actually that local).
    that is the correct rules
Except when the sorting office they will not be  redilvering and need to collect your item from a place miles away at a time that is not possible for you

you can request a redelivery and the sorting office is open 6 days a week. you could always order parcels to be delivered to a friends address or your work address if that is more suitable when ordering online

Did you not read my earlier post.

No option for redelivery and must collect  before 10am.

This is the message we got in 2023

We would like to tell you how
Royal Mail is making changes on how your mail will be delivered as of May 2023.
All parcels that are out for delivery and no one is in to receive them will now be sent back to the local delivery office in bonnyrigg where you will have to collect before 10am.

As far as I am aware, anybody can call themselves a lawyer!

It is only solicitor and barrister that are legally protected titles and it is a criminal offence to falsely pretend to be either.

cos you live in a rural area with a sorting office that is only open 2 hrs a day, 6 days a week, then best ordering online to a friend's address or work address or get someone to collect your parcel for you before 10am

you could do what I do, get everything I want from the shops in the nearest big town.

or live in a big town or city

I did live rural never again, no taxis, no takeaway deliveries, no buses, trains, entertainment, pubs, jobs , doctors, schools, mobile phone coverage

there were no street lights or pavements in the little hamlet I used to live in.

just  a little church, and big houses, thatched roofs,  with folk with big cars and big gardens that had to drive everywhere until  they got older and couldn't drive , then they were snookered

The OP's parcel was delivered (put in the bin) by Evri, not Royal Mail.

As far as I am aware Evri do no allow collection from their depots and the recipient can only choose to have it sent to a corner shop collection arrangement if the sender has allowed that option. Otherwise they will supposedly try to deliver three times if there is no suitable place to leave it then send it back.

All of the companies have their own rules and there is quite a bit of variation (and reliability!)!

best make sure that the company you order from uses royal mail.delivery, I won't get anything online that doesn't use royal  mail if I can avoid it.

I tick royal mail 48 hrs tracked, that's my preference and the sorting office is 800 yards away open till 3pm

the suitable place is only when the customer opens the front door, all other areas are at risk of theft, so they are not suitable or secure.
the OP should really use an address he knows he will be at most of the time, namely his work or use a neighbours address in the order that rarely goes out much

I mentioned this on another thread before but had a case that went to small claims court and we defended. I can’t remember the exact item but it was high value and delivered by DPD. Customer had followed the link in delivery notification text and asked for parcel to be left “behind back gate”. Customer wasn’t in and DPD did as requested. Customer got home and advised no parcel there and assumed it had been stolen.

We refused a refund on the basis that customer asked for it to be left there. Customer went down the small claims court route, we defended as our solicitors thought there was a 75% chance of us winning and customer lost. We had also went to DPD to include in our defence and they provided evidence that customer had asked for parcels to be left there on at least a few more occasions (parcels from other retailers). Judge said he couldn’t make an accurate decision on whether parcel was stolen or not, but based on this customer continually asking for parcels to be left there, they clearly thought it was a safe place. He said if customer hadn’t asked for it to be left there, he may have made a different decision.

Not relevant to the OP as they didn’t ask for the parcel to be left in their bin, but thought I’d bring it up.
