You don't need touch the ECU software to make changes to how a EV or any car might perform.
You just need to "corrupt" some input signals to the ECU.
Take the throttle input, you can easily alter that signal at source to give more/less signal at any given point.
In fact you can buy plug in devices between the ECU and the throttle pedal's potentiometer that do just that.
Then unplug if needed.
Steinbauer are already at with with some EV's.

It's also a modification that would need to be declared to your insurer. Of course, that's possibly what "unplug if needed" refers to.
I need to think of something new here...0 -
I wasn't highlighting any merits or anything like that. To be clear, I am neither agreeing or condoning,
Plenty modify their cars and spend billions in the process, what they do and how they do it is down to them.
Just pointing out it's possible to alter a car's performance without going to the trouble of rewriting the ECU's software as mentioned elsewhere in this thread.
The trick is to alter the signals the ECU gets from various inputs around the car.
If it can go faster, someone somewhere will spend (far more than it's worth) to make it go faster.

I saw one out on the road the day before yesterday; it didn't seem as tall as the pictures suggest, but it was otherwise unremarkable.

I'm suggesting it is much less likely that in 10 years time someone will have a 2024 Capri and be able to replace the powertrain with something more powerful or more up to date.
