Agreed.
Back in the 90s there were quite a few RHD Opels registered in NI, as the exchange rate meant you could save a few thousand pounds by buying the car in Ireland and then bringing it in to NI and re-registering it; if you're saving that amount of money, you didn't mind if it had an Opel badge on the front, back and steering wheel, plus the Vauxhall dealers were happy to service them!0 -
Opels were being sold separately to Vauxhalls as recent as the late 1980's I believe0

In my day you could do a million miles on two shillings of four star. No need for fancy immobilisers - just lift out the rotor arm (not that effective as there were only two types).Car_54 said:
And did you get the hotel, a meal, a skinful of beer, and change from £1?MouldyOldDough said:Herzlos said:MouldyOldDough said:I think that we can all agree that the days of driving for fun are now just about gone?
They have been for some time. There's so much traffic, the roads are in terrible state, and fuel costs a fortune.
I'm not that old and remember just going for drives for fun, but that was before speed cameras were a thing.I remember the days when I just got into my Capri on a dry day and drove it as far as I could - sometimes 400 miles each way - found a cheap hotel, and drove home the next day - no planning - just driving !
These days I am looking forward to the day when I can have a few pints, climb behind the wheel of the old jalopy and select auto cruise.0 -

The last Vauxhall that was anything more than a rebadged Opel was the HC Viva, launched in 1970, 54 years ago - and it wasn't a lot more than a restyled HB, launched in 1966, 58 years ago.0 -
There was no vauxhall equivalent to the Opel Manta Mk 1 which was a superb looking carontheroad1970 said:Opels were being sold separately to Vauxhalls as recent as the late 1980's I believe
If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.0 -
True - but the Manta A ended production in 1975, 49 years ago.MouldyOldDough said:

I've read that the new Nissan Qashqai (which has all these features) comes with a button that disables them all in one go. They are re-enabled next time you start up but it's better than nothing.TooManyPoints said:Can any or all of this junk be disabled?0
