I wouldn't trust them: I've had my car brake approaching a manhole cover at the bottom of a hill and for a motorbike waiting at a give way sign when the main road I was on bent right.
Also, my car often gets the speed limits wrong, even saying it was 80 mph on a 30 road and 100 mph on a 40 (this was repeatable on two particular roads).

There was something on the radio today about car makers (Renault) putting in driving style assessment software, which could feed back info to authorities or be purchasable by insurance companies.

You can disable it but it'll re-enable any time you restart the car
So you'll have to disable them every time you start up?
Yup. Just like you need to do with any other safety features. Unless you're passing somewhere that tricks it, then you can always just leave it on too.

I usually turn the lane departure mechanism off on mine, because there's a stretch of road where it thinks the roadwork lines are the centre and pulls the car over.

I think the issue is that whether the UK follows the rules or not, manufacturers (both in the UK and in Europe) are not going to make two different specs of cars, one for sale in the UK and one for sale in the EU. That's OK so long as drivers who don't fancy the idea of (say) their brakes being applied harshly without their consent can disable the feature.
I believe there's a UK convention that we'd automatically mirror an EU car regulations, but I'm not sure if that's a rolling thing or stopped in 2023. So regardless of whether a car is to be sold in EU it'll still have the feature.
And yes, for now it can be temporarily disabled.

All new cars.  Just in case people were thinking they had to rush out and get such things fitted to their current car.

Although people should be aware by now that we’re not in the EU anyway.

This will be a feature on any EU market car, and I think we agreed to follow the EU rules anyway so even the few cars still made in the UK will have these features.
    1. No, we didn't, and AIUI the UK is not implementing this particular one,

    2. Pre-Covid, we were making more cars in the UK than at any time in the past. Last year's stats:

"905,117 cars, 120,357 commercial vehicles and 1.6 million engines were built in the UK in 2023.

Eight out of 10 cars produced in the UK are exported overseas to more than 140 markets worldwide."

Meanwhile Suzuki have pulled out of selling cars in the EU, probably one hoop too many when their main market is Asia Pacific.
The ships en route to the UK are the last ones.
Do you have a link to that

Most type approval standardisation is UNECE, not EU. The UK hasn't left UNECE.

This particular one is EU - so applies to NI, because that's still in the single market, but not GB. It's almost certain that no manufacturer will bother doing "special" GB-spec cars.

    I was unaware of this..
What difference will this make to servicing costs?
    I have a Suzuki

WOW, I read about this years ago.
    Bit late now.
It will be fitted, at the moment its switched off in the UK or will be.
I'm tracked every day and every journey, via a black box for my insurance.
I love the limiter on my car, so many camera's around and 20mph roads.
I set it every time I use the car.

I think that we can all agree that the days of driving for fun are now just about gone?
