If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

All new cars. Just in case people were thinking they had to rush out and get such things fitted to their current car.
Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid5 -
From the Guardian article:
Combining satnav maps with a forward camera to read the road signs, they will automatically sound an alarm if driven too fast for the zone they are in.
My Ford Focus 2019 would beep when I exceeded the speed limit. All I see from the article is the EU ruling makes it compulsory.4 -
...all NEW cars. It's all been compulsory on new type-approvals since July 2022, just now for all older models, too (but nothing already registered).
They are, of course, already fitted to almost anything vaguely recent. The only difference will be that they now default to on with the ignition. Even without turning the speed limiter off, it'll still be possible to go faster than the limit - it'll just take a firm push on the pedal to do it.
Nobody's reporting on the other ADAS features that are also part of the package of compulsory requirements...
- Rear parking sensors or camera
- Lane keep assist
- Auto emergency braking

Funny isn’t it, if everyone obayed the speed limits and the rules of the road, we wouldn’t need these systems..1

I've had my car do the auto braking a couple of times. Not a fan of it when it was used but I suspect it could be useful.Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid0

My car auto-brakes incorrectly on occasion when passing static traffic on my left, I can't convince the garage that the forward sensor is mis-aligned. It's scary and I hate it.Also the lane warning goes off even when I'm indicating to change lanes and distracts me exactly when I need to be paying attention outside the car. We're really careful how we do alerts/warnings for Train drivers but apparently the Auto industry have not considered this because they want us to test all their self-driving sub-systems for them.Decluttering awards 2025: 🏅🏅🏅🏅⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️, DH: 🏅🏅⭐️, DD1: 🏅 and one for Mum: 🏅0

Possibly because less people are obeying the rules of the road. For a start, I certainly see a lot more drivers running red lights than ever before (although that is probably a cause of a very small number of fatal collisions) and the use of phones and other devices by drivers is definitely increasing again.Hoenir said:

Although people should be aware by now that we’re not in the EU anyway.oldernonethewiser said:All new cars. Just in case people were thinking they had to rush out and get such things fitted to their current car.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0
