MayHi everyone,
been reading through the threads and thought I would ask for some tips for an August Honeymoon.
We are thinking of making a trip to the West Coast, possibly flying into San Francisco, then maybe doing a bit of travelling by car to various locations but definitely wanting to fit at least 3 nights in at Las Vegas.
Flight wise the cheapest I have been able to find so far is for about £700.
What sort of prices would people expect to pay for flights in August to LV or SF?
Also would you advise flying into one place and out of the other to UK?
Dates should be fairly flexible really.
American do a Platinum challange whereby if you did the above trip, and as long as each segment of you travel was not at a deep discount fare, you would complete the challange and become instant Platinum members, with access to lounges, free upgrade vouchers, and all sorts of goodies. Search on here for a thread about American Airlines started by murphy_the_cat, it is very informativeThe common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
Might be an idea to get an "open jaw" ticket, where you can fly into SFO ( Virgin run a good service from Heathrow) then travel around and leave from Vegas, (again Virgin, but you would then have to get a coach to Heathrow from Gatwick, about £20 each) don't know if Virgin do open jaw, but American Airlines do. Give them a ring and ask about it is the best I can suggest.

Many thanks Mardrew. That's much clearer now as I didn' have a clue. How did you find out what your password would be, did you enquire at check in?
bigfoot, when are you going and from which airport? You should be able to get direct flights for under £500pp, but it depends on where you are going.
Our flights are always more expensive as we have to add on a domestic flight from Aberdeen to Manchester.
thanks looking to travel 23rd july form manchester, cheapest thus far is
ThomasCook £2300 for 4,is this likely to be the best i wonder0 -
MarchYes, you can do this with Virgin and can select it on their website.
Agreed - we're doing so in June - flying into Chicago and home from Vegas on Virgin. Fare was not a lot more than a simple return to Chicago and as both legs are on the same airline a whole lot cheaper than 2 one-way tickets...we booked direct on Virgin's site - just choose the 'more booking options' from the main screen and choose your departure and arrival cities for each leg.
One thing to check before you book the flights though is whether the car rental company will charge you a 1-way fee if you were to pick up in SF and drop off at LV. Sometimes they do (depends on whether or not the two locations - pick up and drop off - are owned by the same company - some are franchises) and it can be pretty pricey...if that is the case it may make more sense to plan to book a 1-way ticket from SF to LV - just depends on both prices.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
MaySFO to LAS is usually about £25 O/W with Virgin America. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0

Just priced bmi for the date before non-stop and it's coming in at £732pp and that's supposed to be a sale!
You should be able to get Thomas Cook a lot less than that if you are prepared to book at the last minute.0 -
Luci
When we were checking in we asked about using a laptop and the really helpful check-in man told us how the password is made up and what we needed to do.
Mardrew
PS I forgot to mention that the laptop fits in the safe at both The Signature and The Palazzo.0 -
MayGreat info. We will be staying in 4 hotels and intend using the internet one day at each so this info has been invaluable to me.0

AprilYou won't get bmi non-stop on that date as they only fly non-stop of Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

Thats BMI for you. there prices next to impossible to judge one minute you can get £500 next time you look they are above £700.
if you do go with thomas cook please remember the 15kg ( upgradable to 20kg) baggage allowance . the trouble with last minute with them is that there will be four of you , and in the summer months ( June , July, August and some of Sept) there were no great fares to be had by booking last minute. if you are only prepared to go in trad summer/ school holiday time your going to get stung for the flight i'm afraid, because they know someone will pay the prices they list.
booking a openjawed flight with Virgin is easy and your right does not seem to cost more than a one destination flight. we are flying into LA and out of Las Vegas and it cost what i would expect to pay for a Vegas only flight, plust there was loads more dates and fares available :beer:Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -

That's why we booked our July/Aug flights back in November. They had a sale on and the flights were just over £500 each (direct from Man). Same flights now are just under £900 each !
I think you just have to keep checking and as soon as you see a price you think is OK, get them booked (no messing around !).0
