We're actually travelling next week just after the rodeo leaves town so hopefully it won't be as busy then. I'm going to give it a try and see what happens!

good luck with your upgrade . we got upgraded to the Augustus tower on a 5 night stay with $20 tip. okay we had a low floor with not much of a view , but the room was excellent in every respect.

only THE HOTEL @ Mandalay Bay has topped it room wise , but of course you are not center strip
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

Well the wife and I have booked 7 nights at the MGM Grand first week in Jan, whats the situation regarding getting the best prices for show tickets, esp the Blue Men and Cirque du Soleil (like the sound of KA). How much cash should we take for the stay. Whats better, travellers chqs / cash / or just pay by CC (have applied for a Nationwide CC). Its our first trip to LV so tips for first timers welcomed
  • hello all - quick question, how long is the direct flight from manc-vegas? im flying with thomas cook airlines in the premium seats - my mum thinks its 8, but i thought it was more like 11?

Depends on headwinds etc 10:09 hours on my last trip, 10:35 seems average.

ooh, the missus wants to stop there when we go (well, she wants to stop @ Mandaley, no stipulations on THE Hotel... yet!)

which suite did you stay in? what made it so good? :)

we do like 'that end' of the strip so location doesn't bother us that much, but would be very interested to hear about the room :)

Deal for BMG that might work for you - up to 40% off:

    http://shows.travelzoo.com/las-vegas-shows/497021?ptl=done&rating=&tppct=

I can't see any Ka deals in the usual places at the moment...keep an eye on

    http://shows.travelzoo.com/las-vegas-shows/ and

    http://www.ticketmaster.com/channel_partner/?brand=tmdeal&tm_link=

and also may be worth joining the Cirque Club at
http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/ as you can access special offers...none go beyond 01.01.09 at the moment though.

As for your money-related questions...is it a Nationwide credit card you've applied for or the Flex Account? It's the Flex Account that's the one you want for overseas withdrawals...or the Post Office credit card for overseas charge card.

How much cash to take is a relative question - how much do you plan to spend? :) Or rather, what is your budget? Consider your budget and daily withdrawal limits for whatever card you may be withdrawing from...we take about 1/2 in cash and use the Nationwide Flex Account card to withdraw the rest but others may not take any cash or very little.

Personally, we work on a daily budget which includes £x for gambling and £y for food and everything else...what we don't spend for y can be used for x, but we cannot dip into the next day until the next day...no cheating. I think Vegas is a dangerous place to go without a budget in mind and for us, it has to be a daily thing...first trip we had a budget for the trip and in the end took an extra 50% out of the account as we'd run out of money. :)
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?
