Me and Mrs Frog flying out a few days before Xmas, and staying until just before the new year. At Venetian then at Caesars.

Anyone who's been there over Xmas......whats shut? Was thinking about doing Grand Canyon on Xmas day.

Just wanted to share moneysaving details of the extras (over and above flight an hotel deals now probably expired) booked for my trip that you might be interested in.

    Parking

    http://secure.holidayextras.co.uk/parking?profile=egg

15 days at Heathrow for £69.52.......including hotel the night before we fly at the unnamed "Undercover 4 star hotel" which turned out to be The Park Inn. Cheaper than parking without a hotel.

    Airport Transfer at SFO

to downtown hotels. $14 inc each way at www.supershuttle.com including the $3 code at http://www.retailmenot.com/ less than viator

SFO Deluxe Bus and Alcatraz Tour

www.allsanfranciscotours.com $61 inc less than viator

    Flight SFO/LAS

Sensible time lunchtime flight £60 one way http://www.usairways.com/awa/content/international/en-UK/default.aspx Used Expedia to find best price flight and booked direct with the airline to save on their £5 booking fee

    Car Hire Vegas/LAX

http://www.carhire3000.com Compact car £179 zero excess, full tank included, no one way charge, 9 days, pricebeat www.dollar.co.uk who are vague about whether a one way charge applies......ch3000 will note it on the reservation if you ask

Have you been to SF before?

Just wanted to say that I hope you don't get the same lunatic that did our SF airport shuttle ride. I have never been so scared in all my life, I can't emphasise how awful that journey was. I thought I was in a movie it was that horrendous.

Also alcatraz is ace and we did a Deluxe bus tour too, hopefully the fog will stay away for you to see the whole of the bay from twin peaks. When we went all we could see was fog.

No Baz.....never been there. Day 1 fly in, scary shuttle, recover, and Im thinking Chinatown to eat. Day 2 full day tour including Alcatraz. Day 3 scary shuttle, fly out to Vegas lunchtime.

Also if anyone's interested, Im taking my iPod Touch, complete with mains adaptor and Griffin Smarttalk, so I'll be taking advantage of free hotspot wifi browsing and Skype calls to the tadpoles. Will let you know how it pans out......hotspot locations, Skype quality etc.

A good chance of it being cold and wet but at least there is less chance of fog than in June-August. Great city to spend a few days in.

Might be a nice thing to do, though be sure to check the weather for potential snow and road closures...will be really quite cold...highs in single digits...assuming you mean the South Rim.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Would fly rather than drive as it would be dark by the time we got there ;) ....still not picked which package we want to do. Scenic has "much reduced fuel surcharges" as of November.
