just a reminder of something stoneman posted awhile back.

London Clubs International which has several UK casinos is aligned with Harrah's properties in Vegas and you can get discounted rates going through LCI's players club link here:

    http://www.playerrewardscard.com/

It says you can get up to 20% off prevaling rates, but having checked for our dates in April it's coming up at 45-50% off the hot deals/standard rate for Bally's.

And yeah, on the LCI screen the make a reservation link only allows for 2007 or 2008 dates...but if you click on the individual hotel it takes you to the regular HET page and allows you to choose 2009 dates.

Also, as it appears that the actual booking is done direct with the hotel it seems that it's subject to the same 72 hour cancellation policy - so not a non-refundable deal.
thanks for the reminder... hmmm, that gives me a dilemma - 4 nights @ Paris (Luxury) coming up for $60 for 3 and $75 for the other (Friday).

So $225 + Taxes compared to what we are due to pay @ Mirage of $448 + Taxes (in Tower Deluxe so admittedly better 'spec' on the face of it).

Seems an absolute bargain! Anyone stayed in a Luxury room @ Paris?

Just checked www.holidayautos.co.uk and it's coming in slightly cheaper for my dates to pick up in LA and drop off at LAS...edited to add - also £10 quidco available.

No one-way fee - it says during booking that there may be a one-way fee but it will be displayed before you book and sure enough:

    One-Way Charge: 0.00 USD

We used these in August, picked up from Dollar in SF, returned to LAS 7 days later, NO one-way charge, total £125 (ish). EDIT: The price included a full tank of fuel and extra drivers, this must be worth at least £30 with the current exchange rate.

    Also, can cancel without charge.

EDIT AGAIN: My mistake, we used www.auto-europe.co.uk, sorry.

seems the dollar.com customer services person doesnt like me questioning the information that has been posted here and is clearly readable on othe car hire sites regarding their policies.

After replying to their initial email asking them about certain terms on other car hire sites that specifically state there are no charges i asked if they could confirm.

    their stance is thus:
I apologize that you feel the information I have given you is
incorrect. To find the CORRECT information for one-ways, please
    go to www.dollar.com.

Sorry, I've just edited my post above, we used www.auto-europe.co.uk. I did phone them up before booking to clarify the situation. Just don't book over the phone as you get a better rate on the net and quido (8% I think).

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for your advice, seems we are going to have difficulty having a 19 year old with us. Rather than doing LAX to LAX we are flying into Phoenix and going round via SF down the Pacific Coast to LA to fly out. Your info on cars is great as this is a problem we were facing having to pay a one way fee which in July for 15 nights really shot the price up, we are thinking of staying in the Grand Canyon are for one night- would you say this is a good idea and anyone got any suggestion?

Well...arguably, dollar.com is the company involved and it's information IS correct for bookings direct with them.

If 3rd parties do not show the 1-way fees (or include the 1-way fees in their prices) that's not dollar.com's fault, is it?

You can't point to a 3rd party website as evidence of what the primary supplier's terms are I don't think.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

That's correct, you are booking direct and indeed the terms state that you have the 72 hour cancellation policy. we booked Paris through this for the New Year at $600 for the 7 nights, then found Caesars at $500 so canceled the Paris booking. I have just been on the link again and booked our April trip to stay at Paris for $460 7 nights.:T
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

We stayed one night in October and it was brilliant...for me, the stars at night (we had a perfectly clear night) were the highlight - even moreso than the canyon. We stayed at Thunderbird Lodge which is on the rim of the canyon and was so cool to walk out of the room and the GC be RIGHT there. Accomodations were pretty basic at Thunderbird but perfectly suitable. Prices are higher than those hotels just outside the park though. And the food inside the park was (in our experience) dire...would go out of the park to a fast food outlet rather than eat in the park again.

Ferf, you dancer!!!! :kisses3: I have just booked Paris for 4 nights in April at $60 and I'm just delighted! A total of $240 and going direct it would be $640!

I had looked at that LCI link the first time it was posted, but the rates I found then weren't anything special. I was hoping to stay at Paris this trip, if the rate was right and it was. I also looked at Caesars and Flamingo and their rates looked pretty standard.

    Many thanks ferf and stoneman!

Are you sure the £107 includes a drop off fee? Its a bit of a coincidence that £107 is the cost of a days rental of an SUV (while a compact will cost £19.30). Both include all fees and there is no drop off fee with Hertz between Lax and Las (change the destination to Salt Lake City to see the difference).

Gosh, this reply seems to have slipped under the radar.
