There has been talk on this board about how to call home cheaply. I used the WorldCard which I bought from a petrol station next to the Burger King behind NYNY. I noticed that they are for sale at lots of places such as drug stores, convenience stores etc. I have scanned one for you and this is what to look for.
The bottom portion of the card is credit card sized so you could detach it if you wanted. You call a US free call number, then you are asked for your PIN number off the card then asked to dial the number you need in the UK. I used it from my room in the Excalibur and my motel in San Diego and seemed to get a long time for my five dollars!
Hope this helps and further tips to come!...illegitimi non carborundum0 -
MarchJust checked www.holidayautos.co.uk and it's coming in slightly cheaper for my dates to pick up in LA and drop off at LAS...edited to add - also £10 quidco available.
No one-way fee - it says during booking that there may be a one-way fee but it will be displayed before you book and sure enough:
One-Way Charge: 0.00 USD

ferf - once youve used the quidco link, enter this http://www.holidayautos.co.uk/cgi-bin/liveweb.sh/QSearch.w?ctryref=GBR&lang=EN&aff=xegg in the URL and you should be getting an extra 10% offillegitimi non carborundum0

Alright, we need to get off the strip for the night of the 8th. of January, CES has raised all the hotel prices by double, so we have bitten the bullet and decided to try DOWNTOWN:eek: So, those of you that have stayed in any of the fine establishments there, lets here which would be the best. I am waiting with bated breath.
Nugget or nothing for a first time stay Downtown
Personally I'd book something North Strip (Riv probably) or the Orleans and keep monitoring prices for drops. Even during CES they tend to fall once the non convienent hotels acknowledge they won't sell any more rooms at silly money and then shoot back up last moment to accomadate the idiots who decided to go at really short notice on expenses and don't care what they pay and for what/
Downtown probably is the better alternative unless you really hate the ideaI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

AugustIf you're staying at Downtown then at the most you'll only need 2 nights - probably just one. I have always stayed at the Plaza.
That said, downtown is deff worth a visit and sadly missed by many. Get to Freemont for about 8.0 -
We stayed in binions, dated hotle rooms but big and cheap, would opt for the golden nugget.
Next time i go to vegas I would even consider the golden nugget for the whole stay, loved how close all the casinos are downtown for evening gambling, could easily get around to do the other stuff in the day time.0 -
I have a slightly used las vegas advisor for this year for anyone who wants it if your trip is later this month, I say that as I'm a bit lazy so will take me a few days to post.
For fairness I'll send to a randomn .person who pm's me today (lucky dip unless its only one person).
Quite alot of vouchers still in there but we ripped out car hire / golf ones.

November/DecemberHi all. Heading out to Vegas for my first jaunt on 10th Dec for a week. Really looking forward to it. Can anyone give me an idea of the best/cheapest to fly with to the Grand Canyon on a helicopter ??? And any other tips would be really appreciaited for Vegas in general.
Thanks very much   :beer:0 -
Marchjust a reminder of something stoneman posted awhile back.
London Clubs International which has several UK casinos is aligned with Harrah's properties in Vegas and you can get discounted rates going through LCI's players club link here:
http://www.playerrewardscard.com/
It says you can get up to 20% off prevaling rates, but having checked for our dates in April it's coming up at 45-50% off the hot deals/standard rate for Bally's.
And yeah, on the LCI screen the make a reservation link only allows for 2007 or 2008 dates...but if you click on the individual hotel it takes you to the regular HET page and allows you to choose 2009 dates.
Also, as it appears that the actual booking is done direct with the hotel it seems that it's subject to the same 72 hour cancellation policy - so not a non-refundable deal.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

The helicopter thing has been the subject of a lot of posts recently...if you do a search for 'helicopter' you'll turn up loads of info.
As for general tips, the thread is full of them really.Maybe check the first page for a good summary and skim bits of the thread (I know it's really long, but there are so many tips in there it would be really hard to pick out the 'best' ones.
Have a great trip!Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0
