Bed bugs actually have nothing to do with the quality of the hotel nor of the hygiene its down to what the last guests have brought in with them rather than how well its been cleaned unless the mattresses are steamed which rarely happens at any resort, there are instances of people getting bed bugs at Bellagio and Wynn.

Sorry, should have been more clear...it isn't bed bugs I've read about several times...but cockroaches...I could write off a few comments of such a nature as someone being alarmist, but have read it many times now. I'm sure that it's like any large hotel - some rooms are OK, others not so much.

Hi, Has anyone spent Christmas in Vegas? Wondered what it was like...weather etc? thanks..

I haven't yet - we keep threatening to (my birthday is the 23rd and would love to be there for my birthday and stay for Christmas)...as far as temperatures, there are monthly averages on the first page of this thread or for more detail:

    http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/daily/89109?climoMonth=12

Lows that time of year will be around freezing...we've been late December (flew in on Boxing Day) and had it be soooo cold (much colder than London was that year)...we've also been in early January where we were able to go about our business during the day with just long-sleeved tops and jeans...so it can really vary.

We went end November last year when it was shirt-sleeve weather, and are going for Xmas next month.

ferf - surely the lows in the chart relate to overnight when youd expect it to be around freezing the the desert......the average temp is about 60F which is about 15C.........its about 12C in Essex today so Im not that worried about it being cold.

Having said that, I wont be gonig in any outdoor pools when Im there.

All sounds good to me, hope you like heights and are fearless as you will have to be to ride the strat rides!!

The gondola rides are more suited to couples IMO ( or are you all couples) I took my wife on and she loved it.

Do you have a car? as the Silverton is a way out of town and prob not worth going unless you do, having said that there is a fantastic outdoor advnture shop next door where you can spend a few hours it is enormous!
The aquariom is just one fish tank all be it very big and loooaaads of fish in it. If you do go i can recomend the buffet there and it is cheaper than most on the strip.

Nope we are not hiring a car, didn't realise that Silverton was that far out of town so may give that one a miss then. Its great getting everyones feedback... starting to get alot more excited now.... only 6 days to go!!!

I one thing I am a little worried about is the fact that we are not booking GC trip before we go because my mates haven't got the spare cash until they get paid (on the day we go)

I have spoken to a few people who said that there are loads of people walking around/booths that sell a GC trip, just hope it isn't gona cost too much more... trying to budget on $300 for a helicopter trip to West Rim (with all the stuff we have planned a half day will be ideal.... maybe do the South Rim next time we go)

Sky is blue and grey and the sun is shining in the middle of Epping Forest. Lovely weather out there.

I totally agree - the lows will be overnight...just that some folks assume that it's always hot in the desert. :) First time we went in December we were surprised just how cold it could be...even some of the daytime temps were very cold with the windchill...we didn't expect it to be hot - but certainly hadn't expected winter coats and wishing we'd brought gloves and hats as we did at least one day!

I have spent two Christmas's in Las Vegas and will be flying home Xmas Eve this year. Last year it was cold and crisp but very nice year before it rained and sleeted and was damp and miserable.
Its Vegas time -no longer :T a five year old has changed Vegas time to Orlando time
