    Hi Simon

Thanks for the info and the pics... not sure what you mean about the best part of £1.5k though??

the group want to do a helicopter tour - none of us have been in a helicopter before so it would be quite special just to do that. And in deciding that we want to do the GC by helicopter, from the research I have done this leaves us with going to the West Rim.

I know exactly what you are saying though and alot of people have said the South rim is far more spectacular too :-)

Craig this is my last word on this I promise :)

I am sure you know that South Rim is better what I am not sure that you are aware of is that the West Rim is not in the Grand Canyon National Park so whilst it is called the Grand Canyon it is not really anything more than a hole outsid eof the Grand Canyon, remeber both Luton and Stanstead are counted as London airports, GC West Rim would be more like Manchester being called a London airport.

    Oh and the £1.5k comes from 8 x £173
    Cheers

If the rate gets any worse I would seriously consider postponing my holiday to Vegas.

Its $1.48 to the £ now. Surely it has to bottom out soon ?

Yes the declining rate hurts BUT it is partly off-set by the fact it is a global recession so hotel rates are at their most attractive and there are some great bargains. It isn't the fantastic deal it was in say July but there's still good value to be found.

The rate will get worse and will not improve until interest rates go up which was a large part of the reason for the pound getting so strong I think it will bottom out at around $1.30. To be honest I think that $1.50 is about right and still makes the US and Vegas in Particular a good deal.
Lets not forget that whilst a weak pound may not be so good for our holidays it is good for exporters and the UK tourist industry and lower interest rates mean cheaper mortgages (though I suspect it will also mean less money available for loans). If you save say £1000 over the year on your mortgage that should cover any adjustments on losses on curreny exchange.

I guess this post won't be making it into Martin's newsletter ;)
Quite honestly if anyone is stupid enough to think a deal like that is upfront and a "bargain" they almost deserve to be ripped off.

Id just like to warn anyone who is thinking of getting a woman for $35 to beware.

Ok, i was left on my own in the hotel some time back and had a card saying i could get woman for $35 i thought id go for it. I called up and a beautiful black woman turned up. She explained that it was $35 for 15 mins, and then $125 for every 15 mins thereafter. I was fine with that thinking that 15 mins was more than enough for seconds and a few pints in the bar afterward, anyway she explained the way it worked and bored me half to sleep then said lets go (basically)
I said right so the 15 mins starts now then (just making a note - although i secretly knew 15 mins wouldn' be a prob) And she said "no" and explained that the 15 mins had started when she turned up - even though she had spent 10 mins boring me with do's and dont's. Needless to say i explained that i was having none of it and sent her on her way.

Moral: If you do get a woman round (or man) then as soon as she walks thorugh the door tell her/him you know how it works and get it sorted before it ends up costing more than its worth.

I am sure you are correct, but if you want to go in a helicopter, have a limo pickup and just spend a few hours on the trip then it is worth it. We do not regret it one little bit, was a highlight of our trip, but would still love to visit SR next time.

Never consideded driving to the south rim. How long does it take, do you need to stop over anywhere, can you book a hele trip when you get there?
Sounds like something cool to do on our January trip.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

It certainly will be cool in N Arizona in January I had to follow a snow plough from Flagstaff to Williams last winter.

That's the thing really. We are only in Vegas for a week and I have got so many things that I want to do that a half day trip to GC is ideal really. We're all only 24/25 and its out first time to Vegas for all of us, hopefully one day we will get to go back and maybe then experience the South Rim :-)
